DROW RUNAWAYS

Two young Drow in forbidden love with each other want to leave their home behind for good. Do you help them or their pursuers?

Underground River

  1. Go through the door at 14 in the Underground River. The room is filled with Drow led by Shapur battling Crusaders led by Therli.

    You can indicate that you're going to let everyone sort out their hostilities on their own. That results in Shapur and the rest of the Drow attacking both your party and the Crusaders alike. Each of the Driders has a Potion of Healing. One of them has a Long Sword +1 while the other has a Morning Star +1. All three of the Drow under the command of Shapur will have a Potion of Extra Healing. Both the War Scout and the Blade Master will also have an Oil of Speed. Both the Blade Master and the War Mage will have an Elixir of Health. The War Scout will also have a Potion of Invulnerability. Shapur herself will have the Storm's Pike +2, Bracers of Binding, a Sling +1, 20 Bullets of Ice +1 and a Potion of Extra Healing.

    The Crusaders will help you out if the Drow attack, but may themselves suffer casualties during a battle. Also note that any killing blow by them will result in you not getting the xp for that kill. All of the Crusaders will of course have a Potion of Healing. The Crusader Cleric also has 40 Bullets +1 and an Elixir of Health. The Crusader Mage also has Bracers of Defense AC 7, a Mage Robe of Electrical Resistance and 20 Darts of Acid +1. Therli has a Bastard Sword +1, a Medium Shield +1, a Plate Mail +1, the Cloak of the Gargoyle, a Potion of Extra Healing and a Potion of Invulnerability.

    The alternative is to offer to find two runaway young Drow for Shapur in exchange for her promise to leave the area.

  2. Kaelet and Umar are at 26, but you first have to help them against an Ankheg that is attacking them. There are multiple possibilities afterward:

    • Persuade them to return to Shapur. Viconia can be helpful in that objective if she's in the party. Return to Shapur, and she'll give you a 6,000xp reward and the Bracers of Binding as an additional seeming reward. She'll also summon a Hook Horror and leave you to fight it, consistent with the story of the Bracers of Binding themselves.

    • Let them go after they've explained to you that they've fallen in love and want to escape from the Drow, and they'll give you the House Catanzaro Insignia and House Ryrrl Insignia. Go back to Shapur and indicate that they were killed by Ankhegs. Shapur will leave without giving the party any reward if you make a Charisma check of 12. She and the rest of the Drow will attack if you fail that Charisma check. *Note* They'll be at 5 of the surface of the Underground River if you free Slug as part of The Dungeon Slug Quest.

    • Tell them to be on their way, or ask for a reward that it would make it worth your time, but before they ever have a chance to explain that they're in love. Either option will prompt them to leave without any further interaction. You can if you wish try to kill them before they go offscreen and disappear. Both of them each have two Potions of Healing in addition to the House Catanzaro Insignia and the House Ryrrl Insignia. Return to Shapur and tell them you let Kaelet and Umar leave, or that you killed them, or indicate that you couldn't find them. Shupar attacks in response. This option might actually yield the most xp as you'll get a 6,000xp quest reward in addition to the xp for killing the Drow themselves.

  3. Therli, if she's alive, will give the party the Cloak of the Gargoyle in gratitude. You can loot it from her corpse if she's dead.

  4. If you encountered Kaelet and Umar prior to encountering Shapur, then they'll leave regardless of what you say and your options for this Quest will be limited by comparison.

    Go now to Shapur. If you tell her that the pair left for the surface as soon as Shapur explains what her objective is, then Shapur and her Drow party will immediately leave in pursuit, and without giving you any rewards.

    You can otherwise agree to look for the pair. But when you speak to Shapur again the only options are the ones that lead to a fight, that you found them and let them go, or that monsters killed them (but without the proof of Insignias), or that you killed them. That will still lead to a 6,000xp Quest reward, and more xp for killing Shapur and the rest of the Drow.
