Importing Items

Here you will find some guidelines for keeping the items from Baldur's Gate 1 that you may want to keep, and planning for those items that you may want to import into Baldur's Gate 2.

Keeping Your Baldur's Gate 1 Items

There may be powerful items that you will find during Siege of Dragonspear that will serve you well. But sometimes you may feel that overall the pickings in Siege of Dragonspear can be pretty slim. Or the items you may come across don't really fit with how you want to develop your characters, including your Hero of Baldur's Gate. Does it make you wish you could keep all or least a lot of the items you found in Baldur's Gate 1? Well, you can!

Siege of Dragonspear starts at the entrance (1) of the first level of Korlasz's Tomb, with Imoen giving you the Quest to track down Korlasz. That is completed in the second level of Korlasz's Tomb. Imoen offers you the opportunity to join her on the way up to start Chapter 7 right away, but I don't recommend it as it loses this opportunity to keep all of your Baldur's Gate 1 items. Tell her instead that you want to explore a little more.

Your Hero of Baldur's Gate will keep all the items he or she has equipped, while the items in his or her swag inventory will appear in a special chest that is available in most of the subsequent Chapters. It's somewhat different for your other party members. Any items that were in their swag inventories will also end up in the chest. BUT any items they have equipped will disappear for good, FOREVER and for the rest of Siege of Dragonspear. So the recommendation is that any items that your other party members have equipped and you want to keep should be unequipped and moved into their swag inventories. That may lead to some difficult decisions about what you really want to keep and what you can part with. The items in their swag inventories will now appear in the special chest. The location for that chest in each chapter will be as follows:

Importing Items to Baldur's Gate 2 from Siege of Dragonspear

There are a limited number of opportunities to import items from Siege of Dragonspear, or items from Baldur's Gate 1 and used through Siege of Dragonspear, and import them into Baldur's Gate 2. But they won't be in your Hero of Baldur's Gate's inventory right away. You'll have to find them in your adventures, and they can be scattered at various locations.

Golden Pantaloons

The Golden Pantaloons as always will be in a cabinet at 2 in the first level of Irenicus' Dungeon.

They are of course one of three ingredients needed for the Easter Egg armor, the Big Metal Unit.

Ilyich

Ilyich is the leader of the Duergar who serve Irenicus at 24 in the first level of Irenicus' Dungeon. He will by default be wearing the Mail of the Dead +2. That can change if you have any of the following armors in your inventory:

Only one of them can be imported. If you have more than one in your inventory at the end of Siege of Dragonspear, then the priority is from the top of the list down.

The Master's Room

Irenicus' bedroom at 19 in the first level of Irenicus' Dungeon has several containers. One of them will by default have the Helm of Balduran in it. One of the following will be in that container instead if you had it in your inventory and you did not have the Helm of Balduran in your inventory, in order of priority:

Sewage Golem Table

A Sewage Golem is dormant in the room at 11 in the first level of Irenicus' Dungeon. The table in the middle of the room will have one weapon from the following list if you have any of them at the end of Siege of Dragonspear, and priority from top down if you have more than one of them:

If you did not have any of them at the end of Siege of Dragonspear, then the table will have one of them on the list based on your class (and therefore what weapons you can use) and weapon skill points.

Other Siege of Dragonspear Items

There are items that are available in Siege of Dragonspear (but not Baldur's Gate 1) that can be imported into Baldur's Gate 2 if they are equipped by or in the inventory of your Hero of Baldur's Gate. They will not be in the Hero's inventory to start the game, but will be found elsewhere at various points:
