COAST WAY CROSSING

The bridge will get blown apart, forcing you and your allies to find another way across the river. Several new companions become available to join your party.

Coast Way Crossing

  1. Here is your initial point of entry. The edge of the map provides access to the World Map. But Coast Way Forest will be the only other area accessible from the World Map when you first get here.

A Gnome adventurer named Glint will wander about the camp at random, and is willing to join your party.

  2. Here is the chest that travels with you and holds whatever you want to store, including items you may have found during Baldur's Gate 1.

Standing right next to it, a little to the south, will be Mizhena. She can provide clerical and healing services like in a temple.

  3. Viconia will be here and ready to join your party if you did not previously do so at the end of Chapter 7. A nearby Duergar named Pfaug will voice his objections, as he considers Viconia now his, but they are of no consequence.

A crate behind her and a little to the right holds a Scroll of Cure Serious Wounds.

Safana will be standing a little to the right if she is not in the party. She'll be here and ready to join you even if you did not recruit her during the Recruitment Drive Quest.

Baeloth will also be a little south of Viconia if you chose him over M'Khiin but he is no longer in your party.

  4. Here is a Dwarf named Thaird who effectively provides an Inn with resting options for the camp.

The crate behind him has a Potion of Healing and a Potion of Heroism. M'Khiin will also be in front of the crate if you chose her over Baeloth but she is no longer in your party.

  5. Here is Corwin, who is now willing to join your party.

If you go the bridge at 24, the bridge will get blown up and you'll have to fight some of Caelar's minions before a discussion with Caelar herself.

Come back here after that happens, when you'll have a discussion with both Corwin and Bence Duncan. They conclude that another way across the river will need to be found. And that's when Troll Claw Woods and Boareskyr Bridge will now be on the World Map. You can only reach the Troll Claw Woods for the time being to start Chapter 9. The sequence of the bridge getting blown up and then having the meeting here is progress for purposes of the Important Events Quest.

*NOTE* Make sure you do any side quests or explore any areas available in Chapter 8 that you want to before traveling to Troll Claw Woods. You won't be able to come back here or any other Chapter 8 area once you do that.

Furthermore, after your discussion with Corwin and Bence Duncan, Ophyllis will come and speak to you as part of the Quest called My Missed Fortune and give you a Gold Bust of yourself which you can sell. He'll insist on continuing to try and make up his debt to you.

  6. A Paladin named Rayphus will be here. He won't join your party, but you can speak to him if you need to recall any NPCs that you've dismissed so that they can join your party.

Dynaheir and Minsc will also be here if they aren't in your party.

  7. Belegarm will be here as a merchant with a very extensive inventory.

  8. Edwin will be here, but only after you've explored the area for the Flaming Fist Camp to be completely out of your fog of war and have come back. He is willing to join you, but that is mutually exclusive from Dynaheir and Minsc remaining in the party.

  9. A soldier named Brielle will be here. She's potentially relevant to the Quest called The Vanished.

  10. Prin is standing here next to a runed rock called a Menhir. She gives the Ancient Menhirs Quest.

  11. These points mark the locations of the rune stones called Menhirs, which are relevant to the Ancient Menhirs Quest.

  12. Here is a Halfling named Takos. He gives the Halfling Treasures Quest.

  13. A nobleman named Vessanal will be here. He is potentially relevant to the Quest called The Vanished.

  14. A merchant named Herod will be here. He also gives the Quest called The Vanished.

  15. An Elven woman named Teleria will be here. Speak to her after having spoken to Herod at 14 to start the Quest called The Vanished. Ask her about the recent disappearances and Herod's suspicions of her. She'll indicate that she'll need to speak to you elsewhere, walk a short distance, and then teleport to 19.

  16. Gentrus' Hand Mirror will be in a hidden niche here. It is one of the heirlooms that Takos at 12 wants back as part of the Halfling Treasures Quest.

  17. A chest here has the Cloak of the Beluir Watch. It is one of the heirlooms that Takos at 12 wants back.

  18. You can fight various spiders, such as Phase Spiders or Swords Spiders, at these points. Each group will be led by a Gargantuan Spider.

  19. Teleria will be here after having spoken to her at 15 about the missing refugees and Herod's suspicions as part of the Quest called The Vanished. The five stone statues in this area are actually petrified Humans and Elves named Nehora, Soulla, Qelbether, Manny and Untbril, who are potentially relevant to the same Quest.

Also, if you have a character who has the Spectacles of Spectacle equipped, you'll detect the presence of a Gauth here. If you use a charge then the Gauth will usually attack you as a matter of course as part of Zaviak's Vision Quest. Defeating it earns 6,000xp and a Ring of Fire Resistance.

  20. Here are Baeloth's "Black Pits", where you will witness what Baeloth hopes will pass for gladiatorial combat for the spectators by having small forest animals kill each other. You can afterwards recruit either Baeloth as a Drow Sorcerer or M'Khiin as a Goblin Shaman as party members, but not both. The latter hates the former too much to be in the same party as him. Taking on either will also result in a -2 drop in Reputation.

  21. Four dead Goblins will be here. If M'Khiin is in your party then she will be able to raise their spirits and confront them as part of her personal Quest.

  22. There will be a cache at the base of this tree, but you can only find it if the Goblin spirits at 21 told you about it in the course of M'Khiin's personal Quest. It has some mundane equipment, a Potion of Freedom and a Shortbow called Blightbringer.

  23. Here is the entrance to the Dwarven Digsite. You'll come across a Dwarf named Daran Highhammer fighting a couple of Zombies. He'll explain that he was hired to clear out the Digsite for some Dwarven Clerics, but now considers himself in over his head on account of a substantial undead presence in the Digsite. The conversation triggers the Dwarves of Dumathoin Quest.

  24. Coastway BridgeComing here results in an encounter with several of Caelar Argent's minions. A Wizard named Jayvis will blow the bridge itself so that it becomes unpassable. You'll have to fight those that are left on your side of the river. You don't have to win. You just have to survive long enough for Caelar Argent and her right hand, Hephernaan, to arrive. You and Caelar will then have a brief discussion.

The two men closest to the middle of the bridge will have died from Jayvis' Fireball. They'll leave behind:
If you succeed in killing any of the Crusaders, each will leave behind different loot. Twelve-Fingers, a Hobgoblin archer, leaves behind:
Elwood Dowser, a Mage, leaves behind:
Seed, an Elven Druid, leaves behind:
Kerra Tinbasher, a Dwarven Cleric, leaves behind:
Barachus, an Orog warrior, leaves behind:
    Ivann leaves behind:
Those who survive will submit to capture by the Coalition forces. You can if you want force-attack them before they fade from view. That means you can collect all their gear, and the xp for killing them as long as you land the killing blows instead of the Coalition soldiers.

It is after this event occurs that you can speak to Corwin and Bence Duncan at 5.
