Content Cross-over Reference
The
amount of content available on Sorcerer's Place, especially for
the Infinity Engine games, has grown considerably over the years.
Relatively early on instances of guides, mods, hacks, portraits,
soundsets etc. that applied to more than one game covered on SP
have started appearing. Years back, the decision was made not to
duplicate any content entries across various game sections on SP,
but rather to simply put it in the most fitting one.
While
this was the most practical solution for us, it also meant that
people could miss out on a relatively large amount of content that
still applied to the game they were playing, but wasn't listed in
that game's section. To help you in this area, we have decided to
put together a game content cross-over reference. Here we will list
all the overlapping content that is available on Sorcerer's Place
(that we know of), to save you the time of looking around for it
on your own. The reference will be updated as new overlapping content
is added to SP, but you can also contact
us to point out any potentially overlapping content that we've
missed (or any content that we might have falsely categorized as
overlapping).
Special
thanks go to Felinoid for providing the base of
this reference, and for doing the necessary research to put it together.
NOTE:
The most obvious cross-overs (such as wallpapers, Winamp skins and
screensavers usually listed in the games' Official Patches &
Miscellanea subsections) and minor cross-over content is intentionally
unlisted.
BALDUR'S
GATE
Tips,
Tricks, & Hints:
- Character
Creation Guide by Tazar: Pretty basic, and can easily cross-over
to IWD1. Only partial cross-over to BG2 since it's missing added
classes (barbarian, monk, sorcerer) and kits.
-
The Great Book of Baldur's Gate and Tales of the Sword Coast by
Baronius: Most of it crosses over to BG2. Likely the only part
that would be useful for IWD1 would be the advice and tactics.
-
Baldur's Gate Adventurer's Companion Guide by Nickolas Landry:
Text from all of the game books, which appear in both the Baldur's
Gate and Icewind Dale series.
- Baldur's
Gate Books by chocomog: as above.
Mods:
- No
Wear Limitations Mod by Daephon: Crosses over nicely. The single
2DA file is named correctly for BG1/BG2 and IWD1. IWD2 compatibility
is also assumed, but not confirmed.
- Claw
of Kazgaroth Blur Remover by Baronius: Complete cross-over to
BG2 and IWD1 (though the item can only be found in-game in BG1).
- All
characters: Should work as any other exported character would
from BG1 to BG2. Some exceptions might be made if any of the exceptional
ones (Drizzt, Elminster, dragons, etc.) turn out to be buggy in
BG2; the normal ones will definitely work.
Soundsets
& Portraits:
- All
Baldur's Gate portraits can also be used in Baldur's Gate 2.
- In
IWD1, the large portraits are the same size as in BG1/BG2: 110
x 170. However, the small portraits are different sizes: 38 x
60 for BG1/BG2 and 36 x 58 for IWD1. Depending on the portrait,
the small one used in IWD1 might look just fine. The small portrait
will be placed in the upper left corner of the small portrait
slot in the game's interface, and the excess pixels will simply
be cut off.
- All
BG1 soundsets can also be used in BG2, but some sounds will be
missing.
BALDUR'S
GATE II
Walkthroughs
& Guides:
- Basics
of Armor, Armor Class and Shields in BG1 and BG2 by Ragusa: Complete
cross-over for any of the 2e games (BG1, BG2, IWD1, PS:T).
-
Saving Throws Overview by Ragusa: Another good 2e cross-over (BG1,
BG2, IWD1, PS:T).
-
Proficiencies per Level & Class by Ragusa: If you ignore parts
a & b, which are BG2-specific, everything else crosses over
for all 2e games.
-
AD&D Rules FAQ by Dan Simpson: Pretty obvious. Dan the man
does it again with the perfect 2e cross-over (BG1, BG2, IWD1, PS:T).
Tips,
Tricks & Hints:
- Extracting
Music from Baldur's Gate II by T. Malasri: The basic method outlined
can be used for all Infinity Engine games (BG1, BG2, IWD1, IWD2,
PS:T).
- Spell
Casting Advancement Tables: Another complete cross-over for 2e
games (BG1, BG2, IWD1, PS:T).
-
BG1 & BG2 Complete Item Texts by Kusai Onara: The title says
it all. This is a definite cross-over.
Mods:
Subsection
#1:
- All
characters: The voice packs and portraits will make the cross-over
to BG1 with ease (excess sounds will simply be ignored), but the
characters will not be recognized.
Subsection
#2:
- Cloak
of the Shield Change by Taza: Can also be used in BG1.
Subsection
#3:
-
Evil Dialogues Override by Kevin Dorner: Will also work for BG1.
Editors,
Hacks & Scripts:
- Infinity
Engine Miscellania by Cirerrek: Also hosts (beta) IWD2 scripts
and PS:T scripts.
Portraits:
- All
BG2 portraits can also be used in BG1.
- In
IWD1, the large portraits are the same size as in BG1/BG2: 110
x 170. However, the small portraits are different sizes: 38 x
60 for BG1/BG2 and 36 x 58 for IWD1. Depending on the portrait,
the small one used in IWD1 might look just fine. The small portrait
will be placed in the upper left corner of the small portrait
slot in the game's interface, and the excess pixels will simply
be cut off.
Soundsets:
- All
BG2 soundsets can also be used in BG1. Excess sound files will
simply be ignored; can also serve as alternates if you don't like
a particular one.
Official
Patches & Miscellanea:
- Game
Icon Set by Shalladeth: Features icons for the BG and IWD series
of games, their expansions, and NWN1.
ICEWIND
DALE
Mods
& Customizations:
- Grog's
Custom AI Scripts: Also available for the BG1 DSotSC mod, as well
as BG2.
- All
IWD1 soundsets can also be used in IWD2, but some sounds will
be missing.
- In
IWD1, the large portraits are the same size as in BG1/BG2: 110
x 170. However, the small portraits are different sizes: 38 x
60 for BG1/BG2 and 36 x 58 for IWD1. Depending on the portrait,
the small one used in BG1/BG2 might look just fine. The small
IWD1 portrait used in BG1/BG2 will simply have a 2 pixel border
on the right and bottom sides. BG2 gives it a black border, while
BG1 gives it a border with the stone colouring of the GUI, which
makes it less noticeable.
ICEWIND
DALE II
Soundsets:
- All
IWD2 soundsets can also be used in IWD1. Excess sound files will
simply be ignored; can also serve as alternates if you don't like
a particular one.
PLANESCAPE:
TORMENT
Mods:
- BG1/PS:T
Max HP on Level Up by Grog: self-explanatory.
