THE IRREGULARS

Lieutenant Otilda wants to get rid of a band of Half-Orcs she doesn't trust. Is it better for the Coalition to make use of their strength in arms, or to drive them away?

Troll Claw Woods

  1. Speak to Lieutenant Otilda at 9 in the Troll Claw Woods. She doesn't trust the Half-Orcs who've joined the camp, and wants you to get rid of them.

  2. The Half-Orcs named Farrl, Kava and Rend will be at 13 after you've spoken to Otilda. There's multiple ways to deal with them.

Start a fight with them. Kill one of them and severely wound a second, and the survivors will run away.

An alternative is to speak with Rend and accept his challenge to a non-lethal brawl. Attack with bare fists (i.e. no weapons equipped and no Monk fists like from Rasaad). Whoever knocks a member of the other group out wins the brawl. You still have the option to kill them if you lost the brawl and still want to complete the Quest. If you simply accepted his offer to brawl without first making him agree to provide information should you win and then you win the brawl, he'll say he gets the message and leaves with the other two Half-Orcs. If you conduct the early parts of the dialogue to get him to agree to provide you with information about the Crusade should you win and then win the brawl, he'll relate that he seeks revenge against the Crusade because he was rejected for an elite company by a warrior known as The Barghest. You can then inform Otilda that the Half-Orcs are not a threat.

Another alternative is to speak with Kava. She's mistrustful and won't speak to her motives unless you bring her a good alcoholic drink she likes. What you'll need is a Tepid Mug of Ale from 23 near Boareskyr Bridge. It's a little harder still if your Hero of Baldur's Gate is an Elf. She'll insist that you also have to admit to being "a prancing elf". She'll then reveal that she hid her treasure stash near the Bridge but it's now behind Crusader enemy lines. She joined the coalition with the hope of recovering her stash. *NOTE* You can gain her trust and get her to tell you her motives even without the Tepid Mug of Ale if Dorn is in the party.

  3. Go back and report the outcome to Lieutenant Otilda. You get 6,000xp whether you drove the Half-Orcs off or were convinced they can stay without endangering the Coalition. You only get 105gp in addition to the 6,000xp if you drove them off.
