TENDER OF THE DEAD

The Quest initially has the appearance of honoring the dead who fell in defense of Bridgefort, but something far more sinister is revealed.

Bridgefort

  1. Junia will be at 8 in Bridgefort, with an altar directly behind her. Speak to her after the Voidstone crashes at 6, and she'll ask you to move Herdrin's Body, Lexa's Body and Kendra's Body onto the altar. The request starts the Quest.

Gather the bodies and place them on the altar. You may either have to do it one a time, or distribute them among multiple characters with high Strength scores. Junia will thank you and recognize one of the dead bodies as that of Kendra. She'll indicate that her brother, a guard stationed outside named Tharantis, should be notified of Kendra's passing.

Go through the exit at 9.
  2. Boareskyr Bridge

  3. You will now be at 26 near Boareskyr Bridge.

Tharantis will be at 25. He'll indicate that Kendra always wore a gold chain, and he would now like to have it. You will not have noticed a gold chain on her body when you had moved it to the altar. Go back through the door at 26.
  4. Bridgefort

  5. Speak to Junia again. You can either accuse her of stealing the gold chain and other items from the dead bodies, or at least voice suspicions that somebody pocketed the items. Either way she will then suggest that a priest of Chauntea named Ymori may have stolen the items, and that he was likely by himself in the forest.

Now go through the teleportation circle at 1.
  6. Boareskyr Bridge

  7. You'll now be at 5 near Boareskyr Bridge. The dead body of a priest named Ymori will be at 8.

Clicking on it the first time cause several Zombies and a weaker version of a Wight to attack. The Wight will leave behind Ymori's Head (as a clue), Kendra's Chain and Herdrin's Short Sword +2.

If Edwin is in the party he will confirm that Ymori couldn't possibly have been the one to have raised the undead that attacked. If Dynaheir is in the party, she'll recognize Ymori's murder and subsequent reanimation as the work of a servant of Velsharoon.

Go back through the teleportation circle at 5.
  8. Bridgefort

  9. You'll now be back at 1 in Bridgefort. Junia will be waiting at 8.

You could pickpocket Lexa's Ring from her beforehand if you wish. It's a matter of provoking Junia into attacking by accusing her, multiple times if you need to, of trying to set you up with the undead where you found Ymori. Having Lexa's Ring in your inventory opens up additional dialogue options that will get her to attack. She summons three Wights to help her. She leaves behind Lexa's Ring if you hadn't already obtained it, plus a Club +1 and a High Quality Medium Shield. The High Quality Medium Shield doesn't have any magical enhancement bonus, but it weighs less (4 lbs. to 6 lbs.) and has a lesser Strength requirement (8 to 12) than standard Medium Shields.

Now go through the door at 9.
  10. Boareskyr Bridge

  11. You will now be at 26 near Boareskyr Bridge.

Speak to Tharantis again at 25. If you speak to him without Kendra's Chain in your inventory, you'll still get a 3,000xp reward but no reputation reward or penalty.

If you give him Kendra's Chain freely, you'll get the 3,000xp and +1 to reputation.

If you insist on payment, he'll indicate that the most he can give is 50gp and a scroll. Accepting the offer means rewards of 50gp and a Scroll of Protection from Petrification (Green), but also a -1 penalty to reputation.

Insisting on more than what he offers leads to -1 reputation, and Tharantis and the rest of the nearby Bridgefort Defenders attacking you.
