THE EYELESS PRIESTESS

You'll find an imprisoned Priestess of Bhaal in a temple that was once dedicated to the Lord of Murder but has now been taken over by Cyric's faithful. What to do with her is an even more complicated question than how to free her.

Temple of Cyric

  1. A blind Priestess of Bhaal named Madele is imprisoned in the cage at 4 in the Temple of Cyric. She is apparently very angry at the former temple of Bhaal having been taken over by devotees of Cyric.

  2. Her cage can be opened with the Jail Key after killing Ziatar at 14 for it, which would hasten the Quest to its end. There is more than one possibility with respect to which path you encourage her to take after her release.

You can encourage her to find redemption. Note that this will count as a Heroic Deed for purposes of Disturbing Implications.

Another possibility is to encourage her to use her freedom to commit more murders in Bhaal's name. Note that this will count as a Villainous Deed for purposes of Disturbing Implications.

However, it is possible to find out more with respect to Madele and her captors. Ziatar's body can also be looted for the Ritual Room Key, which you can use to open the door at 16.

  3. Furthermore, the chest at 15 has two items that shed light on Madele's plight. Ziatar's Journal reveals that Ziatar had suspicions about what was going on with Akanna. Akanna's Journal details Akanna's torture of Madele, but also suggests that an inner voice may be influencing Akanna against her will.

  4. A creature known as a Neothelid is at 17. It can use Dominate, Fear and Mordenkainen's Sword. It also occasionally leave a pool of poison at its feet that can continuously damage any characters standing on it, which can encourage the use of missile weapons.

  5. A Mind Flayer named Darskhelin will be at 27, in control of adventurers named Mohad Flintborn, Jhan Redmoons, Teth Se-Nehi and Shallen. A fight with them will be inevitable.

A Chaotic Commands spell on the lead character, or otherwise immunizing yourself against mind control, will obviously help against Darskhelin himself. He doesn't have a lot of health, so he should be the first and foremost target to take his psionic powers out of the battle. Another possibility is to use crowd control spells like Web and/or Stinking Cloud on the enslaved minions, so Darskhelin will come after you by himself and you can cut him down as quickly as possible.

Darskhelin was also responsible for Akanna's plight. She'll be grateful if you first killed Darskhelin before encountering her at 18. And she'll willingly give you the Wardstone if you ask for it.

  6. If you open Madele's cage after killing Darskhelin, you can tell her about your encounter with the Mind Flayer. She'll reveal that she intentionally opened her mind to Darskhelin and revealed all she knew in order to gain any vengeance she could against Akanna. The same choices about whether to encourage her to seek redemption or to commit murders will still be available.
