THE DESPERATE DEFENDERS

A key decision is whether you convince the defenders of Bridgefort to drive off the Crusaders or surrender to them.

Bridgefort

  1. Jegg Hillcarver is at 2 in Bridgefort. Speaking with her makes it clear that she's open to the idea of surrendering Bridgefort to the Crusade while destroying its supplies so the Crusade can't make use of them. That conversation starts the Quest. Note that completing this Quest is mutually exclusive from completing the Down With The Drawbridge Quest.

  2. Completing The Creeping Darkness Quest is also necessary to progress this Quest. Go through the door at 9 when both requirements are in place.
  3. Boareskyr Bridge

  4. You will be at 26 near Boareskyr Bridge. Speak to Khalid at 28.

  5. One course of action is to convince him to surrender. Emphasizing that Jegg Hillcarver will destroy the supplies will make it easier to convince him.

The drawbridge at 30 will open. Negotiations will begin with The Barghest, accompanied by Oloneiros and Hormorn.

You can at multiple points in the conversation indicate that you have no intention of surrendering, which starts a fight with the Crusaders then and there. Be ready if you're intent on doing things this way.

The Barghest will at the start of the conversation want to know your name. Whether or not you give him your name has different consequences. The main thrust of the conversation is that you agree to leave, and the Crusade claims Bridgefort and everything in it, which won't be much as Jegg will see to. You can insist on keeping your weapons as an exception to The Barghest's insistence that the defenders must lay down their arms. You'll then be free to go.

Oloneiros will recognize you as the Hero of Baldur's Gate if you had revealed your name, and she'll try multiple times to stop The Barghest from accepting your surrender. He gets irritated after enough times of hearing it from her and kills her. It won't affect the surrender itself, although you can loot her corpse on your way out. She won't raise a protest and will remain alive if you had not revealed your name at the start of the conversation.

  6. Another course of action is to convince Khalid at 28 to take the fight to the Crusade, which will start The Battle For Bridgefort Quest. One possibility is to convince him to open the drawbridge at 30 and start the fight then and there. The other, and preferable, possibility is to summon Flaming Fist Reinforcements. If you go this route, go through the door at 26.
  7. Bridgefort

  8. You'll now be at 9 in Bridgefort. Go through the teleportation circle at 1.
  9. Boareskyr Bridge

  10. You'll now be at 5 near Boareskyr Bridge. Go to exits at any of the points marked 1 or 3 to return to the Troll Claw Woods.
  11. Troll Claw Woods

  12. You'll find yourself at 23. Make your way to the southwest corner and Corwin will speak to you. If Corwin is in the party then it will be Lieutenant Otilda who speaks to you. Tell either you're ready to take the fight to the Crusade, and you'll wind up back in the southeast corner of Boareskyr Bridge.
  13. Boareskyr Bridge

  14. You'll now be at 1 near Boareskyr Bridge. It's now a matter of helping out the Flaming Fist overcome the Crusaders led by The Barghest and his lieutenants.

Defeating the Crusaders, whether you convinced Khalid to start the attack right away or whether you brought the Flaming Fist reinforcements first, completes The Battle For Bridgefort Quest at the same time.

  15. The Quest is effectively completed once you resolve the siege of Bridgefort through any of these pathways. It will not be officially finished until you reach the Coalition Camp to start Chapter 10.
