The Sacred Stair

The Sacred Stair

*Evil* Okauro

The evil party (and the good party) travels to The Sacred Stair, and arrives at the entrance at #1. I speak to Okauro at #3 and accept the Bounty on Dhwrgas the Ascetic.

*Evil* Tiabo

I next speak to the vendor at #4. I purchase The Magnificent Escape Cape for Tekehu. The bonus to Defenses vs. Disengagement Attacks may at times help him as a spellcaster to simply walk away from melee attackers. The real point is the brief +50 bonus to Deflection when he's reduced to less than 50% Health. It can get extended endlessly when Xoti later on can use Salvation of Time endlessly.

I then speak to Tiabo at #5 and purchase a Ring of Overseeing for Aloth. It will expand the area-of-effect of a lot of his spells, but also his Kalakoth's Minor Blights. I thereafter enter the Spire of the Soul Seers.

Tiabo

The good party "Waits" a little until just before morning, and buys crafting ingredients at The Dark Cupboard and Cuitztli's. They then travel to Serpent's Crown and buy gems from Una.

I travel to The Sacred Stair after that. I speak to Tiabo at #5, and purchase a Ring of Overseeing for Xoti. It will expand the area-of-effect of a healing aura provided by a weapon she will obtain later in the game.

I head south and to the exit at #14. I put my core party back together once I'm there. Eder takes two abilities on his 13th level-up.

One of them is Reaping the Whirlwind, which adds +1 to Discipline. It may become useful when Eder needs to renew his buffs during very long battles.

He also takes Tough. More Health is always a good thing for any front-line warrior, including tanks who need to go the distance.

*Evil* Katrenn

The evil party "Waits" until Evening inside the Spire of Soul Seers, and exits.

Katrenn, who is one of Dessiral's Bounties, will be at #12 on the map of The Sacred Stair along with a Steelclad Construct and two Ironclad Constructs.

I position Mirke so that she can tank the two Constructs to the left of Katrenn, and Xoti so that she can hold up the Construct to the right. I position everybody else right next to Katrenn herself. I talk to her and inform her of my intentions to collect the bounty.

Zarathos, Tekehu and Aloth take out Katrenn as quickly as possible, because she's the squishy target and to keep her spellcasting to a minimum. I allow Mirke to lock down the two Constructs on the left by herself. The rest of the party Flanks and gangs up on the Construct to the right. I repeat the process until I gradually wear down each Construct one by one. I do have to use several healing resources, including potions and scrolls of healing from Xoti, but I do eventually manage to outlast them.

Katrenn leaves behind Katrenn's Grimoire, which Aloth equips as his interim Grimoire. It's like Llengrath's Martial Masteries in that its spells are mostly self-buffs, and it has no spells that will harm his comrades. I ultimately have something else in mind for Aloth but this will do for now.

Now I go to the exit at #8 and switch Ydwin back in for Aloth. I then enter the Spire of the Soul Seers through the door at #7.

Katrenn

The good party likewise "Waits" until Midnight. Katrenn shows up, but she and her Constructs move themselves closer to the temple entrance at #9.

I follow them and set up position. Alliria switches to Modwyr and positions herself next to Katrenn. Eder positions himself next to the Steelclad Construct. Pallegina and Aloth position themselves next to the Ironclad Constructs. I speak to Katrenn to begin the battle.

Alliria attacks and eventually wears down Katrenn herself. She thus gets her 17th killing blow on a Kith for purposes of upgrading Modwyr.

Eder keeps the Steelclad Construct occupied while barely taking a scratch. The others go to work on the Ironclad Constructs one by one. Pallegina routinely summons her Ogres whenever she reaches 4 Phrases. The Crushing attacks of the Ogres can penetrate the Constructs' armor. Mirke fires away with her guns, although she stops whenever a Huana passerby comes around, to avoid turning the whole district hostile. I eventually manage to wear everything down.

Mirke takes two abilities on her 13th level-up. One of them is Stunning Surge. It recoups Mortification spent on Stunning Blow if Stunning Blow lands a Critical Hit. The use of Stunning Blow with the hope of recouping it through Stunning Surge would be dubious if you were relying on using it only against a single target. It becomes much more viable when using it in conjunction with the area-of-effect attacks of Mirke's Blunderbuss, whether it's Hand Mortar now or even better a different Blunderbuss that she will soon get. The Blunderbuss's area-of-effect attacks will apply Stunning Surge to all of its targets, and it only needs to land a Critical Hit on one of them to recoup the Mortification. That's why her build also emphasizes maximizing the chances of her landing Critical Hits. She'll become a character who can damage and Stun-lock entire crowds of enemies round after round after round.

She also takes Deep Wounds. It will apply Raw Damage over time to all the multiple victims of her attacks.

Now I go north and enter the Spire of the Soul Seers through the door at #6.
