Old City Ruins

Old City Ruins

*Evil* Gwenfin

I show the initial entry from the perspective of the evil party. I arrive at #8 on the map of the Old City Ruins. I use the Cornett of Waves on the statue of Ondra at #7 to open the door at #6.

Zarathos speaks at length with Gwenfin. Tekehu makes known his displeasure for a perceived lack of respect for a holy site of Ondra. I also make a Streetwise check of 6 to extract 500cp from her.

Skuldraks and Bats

I battle several Skuldraks and Cave Bats at #4, northeast from #7. The fight isn't difficult by now.

But I get a crafting ingredient that I've been missing out on so far, Skuldr Ears. Now I can add the Sheltering Light enchantment to Pallegina's shield, Lethandria's Devotion. It raises all Defenses besides Deflection by 5 for characters within 2.5 m. And that of course adds another stacking bonus to Defenses which helps Aloth's build. I also upgrade its tier to Legendary.

Undead

I go ahead to #5, where I encounter some Darguls and Rotghasts led by a Wraith. The Wraith teleports both Pallegina and itself away from the main battle, and for a one on one battle. Pallegina summons her Ogres to make it easier on herself. The rest of the party cuts down the undead, and then rushes to help Pallegina finish off the Wraith.

Modwyr

I go to #10, and find a Soulbound Sword called Modwyr. Only the Watcher can bind it to his or her soul.

Alliria binds it after some extended conversation with the sentient blade, and makes it part of her secondary weapon set for the rest of the game in conjunction with The Eye of Wael. The sword, once it is fully upgraded, provides complete immunity to Intellect Afflictions. She'll go to her secondary weapon set whenever the good party is faced with enemies capable of Intellect Afflictions, such as Fampyrs. The sword in combination with her Aegis of Loyalty passive allows her to end an Intellect Affliction for any of her party members with a single attack.

I also now add the Shrouded Strike enchantment to The Eye of Wael now that I have Skuldr Ears. The Scepter now has a 10% chance of a random Affliction upon making a Critical Hit against its target. It is a preferable alternative to Lidless Gaze, which is a per Rest power.

*Evil* Earth Blights and Grubs

I show the evil party version of this fight. I approach the cave network in the southeast corner of the Ruins. I position Zarathos, Mirke and Xoti at the opening, with Tekehu and Ydwin safely using their spells from further back.

I send Zarathos a little east to attack a Grub Barrow, which gets the attention of three nearby Earth Blights but doesn't quite get the attention of the nearby Cave Grubs.

I win the fight with usual methods, subject to a nuance I wanted to illustrate here. Earth Blights are immune to Slashing Damage, but vulnerable to Crushing Damage. The usual methods work, but with an insistence that Zarathos use his unarmed attacks.

Zarathos now switches to his secondary weapon set consisting of his Kapana Taga club. I send him ahead to attack the second Grub Burrow after having destroyed the first one. That gets the attention of several Cave Grubs and Cave Grublings nearby. They have bonus Crushing Armor Rating, so having Zarathos switch to his secondary weapon set allows him to score Piercing and Slashing Damage instead. The usual methods again suffice, although I have to be mindful that Grubs can burrow underground to get at Tekehu and Ydwin.

Skuldrak Cave

Now I go to #4, south of #3, where I fight some more Skuldraks and Cave Bats. It is night time, so I hold the enemies at the entrance as a bottleneck. Alliria then spams Ninagauth's Shadowflame against them over and over again, and wins rather easily.

Now I go east and through the cave tunnel at #1, which leads to the Old City Overlook.
