Southwest Island

Wild Mare, Level 1

*Evil* Oswald's Journal

I speak to Kahn at #5 on the map of the main floor of the Wild Mare. She lent 5,000cp to Oswald, but he disappeared without paying her back. She'd like me to find Oswald and recover the amount owing.

She offers a 20% share. Zarathos bumps it up to 40% without any skill check. He could have bumped it up to 60% by making a Diplomacy check of 5, but I don't since I don't want him to earn any Diplomatic disposition as a roleplaying choice. He also doesn't have the Merchant background for a further bump. The conversation triggers the Lost Dues in Good Faith Quest.

She hints that a courtesan upstairs named Aenalys may know something of Oswald's whereabouts. The stairs to the upper floor are at #7.

Wild Mare, Upper Floor

I'm now at #1 on the map of the upper floor of the Wild Mare. Aenalys will be at #5. A Diplomacy check of 5 won't seem to work. I could have made a Streetwise check of 3 that also earns Shady disposition, but I prefer not to so as to avoid losing reputation with Xoti. Giving her 250cp will work. But Zarathos instead makes an Insight check of 4 to convince her to say what she knows, and give him Aenalys' Key.

I use the key to open the armoire at #6 and obtain Oswald's Journal. The Journal will convey that Oswald feared for his life, and that it may have something to do with followers of Woedica.

You could also obtain the Journal by using Mechanics to break into the armoire to steal it. But if you do it out of Stealth mode so that Aenalys can see you, you'll lose reputation with Neketaka.

I speak to Kahn again, and make a Survival check of 4 to jog her memory. She vaguely remembers passing a temple by on her way to Neketaka. I thereafter leave and return to my ship.

*Good* The good party doesn't even bother with any of these conversations, and simply set sail for the island on their own.

World Map

Derelict Vailian Vessel

The good party sails west and boards a Crookspur Captain along the way. They shortly thereafter sink the Derelict Vailian Vessel at #16.

I sail south and board a Deadfire Merchant Ship. After that, I sail south some more and dock at the Southwestern Island of the Karatapu Channel at #15.

Karatapu Channel, Southwestern Island

*Evil* Osa Channel

I land at #1 on the map of the Southwestern Island of the Karatapu Channel. I go to the Burial Ground at #2. I insist on getting a Sigil of Pain Wardstone out of it.

Osa's Channel is at #3, which offers a scripted interaction. It offers the opportunity to either participate in a Huana swimming race, or bet on one of the contestants.

The early parts of the interaction near the water shore (not the bridge) offer opportunities to size up the competitors. Ydwin makes a Perception check of 12 or Insight check of 4 based on eyeballing the contestants to suggest that the lean blonde Aumaua stands the best chance of winning. It will also note that another of the contestants is a scrawny teen.

Another perception check of 12 based on asking one of the locals near the water (but not on the bridge) who's the best candidate will again suggest the lean blonde Aumaua.

If you want to bet on the race, you have to talk to the people on the bridge itself. Zarathos places a bet on the lean blonde man as the most likely to win. The gangly youth is the least likely to win, but becomes the most likely if the Watcher can place a spell on him that enhances his Might. Doing so earns Shady reputation, however.

Whether you bet on the race or participate in it, the gangly youth will start drowning once the race begins. Your options if you bet on the race are:

You lose your money for good if you bet on the wrong person. If you win, your earnings depend on who your successful bet was. It's 150cp for the bald woman, 250cp for the lean blonde man, and 500cp for the gangly youth. Zarathos won the 250cp after the bald woman went to save the drowning teen.

I thereafter return to my ship.

Osa Channel

The good party likewise obtains a Sigil of Pain Wardstone from the Burial Site.

Alliria converses for a bit with the Orlan on the bridge, but decides that she wants to participate in the race herself.

She makes a History check of 2 with the Huana on the shore to enter the race. A Bluff check of 2 would have worked as well.

She decides to strip down. Aloth is respectful to her, in spite of his growing attraction to her.

The gangly youth falls behind and is in danger of drowning. One option is to keep swimming to try and win the race, which earns Cruel disposition. Pass an Athletics check of 3 and then another Athletics check of 1 and you'll win the race. The only benefit of winning the race is a Ring of Unshackling.

But Alliria's preference is to save the gangly youth and bring him ashore. The checks and the results are the same as for betting and watching the race. If you're a Priest of Berath, you could use your powers to help him with the same result. She earns Benevolent disposition and a moderate gain of positive reputation with the Huana.

World Map

To the Sanctum Island

I chase and board a Vailian Novice Captain a little southeast. I thereafter sail north and dock at the Sanctum Island at #15 on the World Map.

Karatapu Channel, Sanctum Island

That brings me to #1 on the map of the Sanctum Island. I grab some Water from the Oasis at #3 and then some random items from the Old Battleground at #4.

Now I enter the Oathbinder's Sanctum at #2.
