The Rite of Passage

Temple of Toamowhai

Agony of the Elements

It is now that the good party fights the Tyrant of Decay. Alliria tags it with Brand Enemy. Eder Engages it to lock it down. That leaves the rest of the party free to go around and destroy each Obelisk one by one. My passive healing resources are usually enough to keep me going, although I do have to use a White Flames or Greater Lay on Hands once in a while when the party or an individual party member has taken enough damage.

*Evil* Unstable Coil

The evil party emerges at the door at #16. Zarathos has a little fun trolling the Arena Warden.

I speak to Domenga at #6, and briefly switch out Ydwin for Aloth. Now that I have at least two Rubies and two Sapphires, I take the opportunity to upgrade Aloth's Leather Armor from Superb to Legendary.

I also add the Known Causality enchantment. He's not exactly an armored colossus to begin with, so I may as well bump his defenses to magical attacks instead. I thereafter bring Ydwin back in.

Now I speak to the Elf named Neale at #5. He wants me to wear his special belt as an experiment in animancy. I agree and receive the Unstable Coil to start the Potions of Plenty Task.

Tekehu wears it, as it will eventually become a powerful belt that he'll wear for what's left of the game.

*Evil* The Proving

It is now that the evil party speaks to Humaire near the Pool of Memories at #11 to earn 7,000xp and complete The Proving. The The Rite of Passage Quest begins.

*Evil* The Naga Trial

The next trial is against several Poison Nagas. An Obelisk to the north summons Bog Oozes, while an Obelisk to the east summons Drakes. I gradually get everyone under endless Barring Death's Door and the Salvation of Time-Ancestor's Memory loop as I make my way to each Obelisk, and then wipe out everything else once that's done.

*Evil* Bloodied Ceremonial Knife

The evil party encounters Pipiltin as soon as they return from The Crucible. Zarathos keeps it short and sweet by telling him off promptly.

He goes back to the Pool of Memories at #11. Humaire gives him the Ceremonial Knife, along with the expectation that he'll cut himself with it. He does so, to replace the Ceremonial Knife with the Bloodied Ceremonial Knife.

*Evil* Memories of a Mad Man

I give the Bloodied Ceremonial Knife to the pool and enter The Crucible again. Now I face off against a few manifestations of Maerwald, along with Soul Mirrors of my own party members.

The Salvation of Time-Ancestor's Memory Loop plus Barring Death's Door works here as well. But Tekehu starts to show some evolving strategies as well. He casts Rot Skulls on himself, and then summons a Watery Double that will be using those Rot Skulls. Salvation of Time will keep the Watery Double around for the length of the battle. Once his Aefyllath Ues Mith Fyr Phrase activates, all of his Phrase Buffs are now activated and in the process of being extended infinitely by the loop. That's when he switches over to the Phrase Modal that uses Many Lives Pass by, which floods the battlefield with skeletons non-stop and keeps the enemies distracted. He also uses his Spiritshift, which itself gets extended infinitely by Salvation of Time. I eventually manage to outlast everything.

*Evil* The Bloodletting

I speak to Humaire again to start the next challenge. It's called The Bloodletting and it's against Pipiltin and his band of mercenaries. I go into Stealth mode and sneak up on them from behind. I otherwise defeat them using standard methods.

I gain the Maw of Ingimyrk. I don't have anyone equip it on an ongoing basis, but I have Ydwin hold onto it in case she needs an extra boost to Perception for the sake of finding something hidden.

Now I have to decide what to do with the ambient soul energy. My choices are:

Zarathos took the Rymrgand's Gift passive. I have no use for any per Rest item. And there will be other opportunities for upgrading my weapons and armor.

The Bloodletting

The good party likewise sneaks up on Pipiltin's Pact and beats them without much trouble.

Alliria absorbs the essence into herself to get a Culmination Stone. The good party has several single-handed weapons that they need to upgrade from Superb to Legendary, more so than the evil party. Alliria uses it to upgrade The Eye of Wael.

*Evil* The Rite of Passage

I speak to Humaire again, and earn the Crucible Token and 8,700+ xp as rewards for completing The Rite of Passage Quest.

Humaire then explains that I need to bring to the Pool of Memories at least one artifact sacred to one of The Seeking Face, The Slaying Face, or the Surviving Face. That conversation starts The Crucible Quest. She also indicates that I should speak to Engari.

*Evil* Engari

I speak at length with Engari at #10 in the Temple of Toamowhai, and he explains the nature of the Faces of the Hunt. Zarathos agrees to seek an artifact for The Slaying Face. Engari opens the door at #12.

*NOTE* The alternatives, The Seeking Face and The Surviving Face, will both force a Rest. You can check out both links if you're interested in details. Both the good and evil parties go the pathway of The Slaying Face because it is the only one that avoids a forced Rest and allows them to keep all the until Rest bonuses that they've accrued as part of a no Rest run.

I also buy two items from him. One of them is the Bracers of Greater Deflection for Mirke. The +7 bonus to Deflection is always good for a tank character. But in Mirke's instance there's the additional point that it maximizes the chances of triggering Instant Recovery through the Insistence power of her Rannig's Wrath Rapier.

The other item is the Contender's Armor. I go to Domenga at #6, and briefly switch in Konstanten. He wears the armor for the rest of the game. I choose the Heavy Mobility power, which reduces the Recovery Penalty of the armor by 1% for every point in the Athletics skill of the wearer. An armor with reduced Recovery Time is always welcome for a character that both fights on the front lines and casts spells, and some of the Offensive Invocations that Konstanten uses have significant Recovery Times.

I thereafter switch him back out and bring Ydwin back in.

*Evil* Less Unstable Coil

Now I speak to Neale at #5 again. Tekehu gets his Unstable Coil replaced with the Less Unstable Coil. It has the added bonus of providing a +15% enhancement to Action Speed for 12 seconds should the wearer kill a Spirit. And another upgrade is to come.

I also get the Skull of the Fallen as a reward. But I don't have much use for it as a per Rest item.

Now I leave through the door at #12, to begin the path of The Slaying Face.

Engari

The good party also speaks with Engari at length, purchases the same items from him, and then goes to Domenga at #6.

Ydwin gets the Bracers of Greater Deflection in the good party. More Deflection is always great for a tank character. But in Ydwin's case it also maximizes the chances of triggering extra attacks through Riposte.

Konstanten also gets the Contender's Armor in the good party, and for the same reasons.

Now I leave through the door at #12, to begin the path of The Slaying Face.
