The Endless Queries

The Shattered Passage

*Evil* Betrayal

This area is shown mostly from the perspective of the evil party. I go from #7 and through the portal at #6 on the map of The Shattered Passage.

Endless Queries

Now I start off at #1 on the map of The Endless Queries. I go southeast and defeat a Soul Collector along with some Strangled Souls.

I next speak to the Shackled Soul at #2. It will first appear as Iovarra, then Thaos, then as Maerwald, and then itself as a Wood Elf but with a darker complexion than Iovarra. Zarathos gains a Trinket called Betrayal at the end of the encounter.

*Evil* Mote of Regret

Each of the portals at #4, #5 and #7 lead to portals at #8, #9 and #12 respectively. However, the first time you enter any of the portals at #4, #5 or #7, you'll first participate in a trial between the Shackled Soul and the Soul of an Inquisitor.

The goal of each trial is to obtain a Mote of Conviction, Mote of Hostility or a Mote of Regret.

If you want to obtain the soul of Inquisitor Naxiva as an ally, then you will want to obtain one of each of the Motes. Obtaining more than one of the same kind of Mote will ultimately prevent you from gaining her soul as an ally. That won't rule out completing this Quest, but it will rule out having her as an ally when you confront Neriscyrlas during the Quest called Death's Depthless Dominion.

The evil party steps through the portal at #4. You can participate as either the accused or the witness during the first trial. You can participate as any one of the accused, the witness, or the Inquisitor during the second trial. That means the first two trials are your best bet for obtaining a Mote of Regret. Zarathos deliberately plays the part of the humbled and penitent accused to get that Mote of Regret.

*Evil* Oathbreaker's End

Ydwin goes east and disarms numerous traps on the floor and running up the stairs. The party then goes up the stairs and defeats another Soul Collector and several Strangled Souls.

The statue at #13 has a two-handed Battle Axe called Oathbreaker's End. This weapon has definite appeal and potential. A Hit with it places Scales of Justice on its target, which inflicts Raw Damage over a lengthy period of time. But the real power is realized through either its Found Guilty or its Found Innocent enchantments.

Certain high-tier abilities, like the Fighter's Clean Sweep, the Monk's Whispers of the Wind, or the Barbarian's Heart of Fury, can put Scales of Justice on multiple targets. If you choose Found Guilty, you're setting up those multiple targets to become time bombs waiting to detonate. Killing an enemy under the effects of Found Guilty will cause that enemy to explode, causing Raw Damage to enemies within its vicinity. And that Raw Damage can be enhanced by Might or class-based passives, since it is treated as a weapon attack by the game. Or if Found Innocent is your preference, putting Scales of Justice on multiple targets sets them up to be healing bursts in a manner not unlike the Druid's Garden of Life.

Like I said, it has a definite potential. But I was content with having gotten Amra for Eder, especially as it is available much earlier.

I go through the portal at #8 to return to #4.

*Evil* Mote of Conviction

I go east from #4 and fight against four Scourges all at once. The Salvation of Time-Ancestor's Memory loop, plus Barring Death's Door when needed, assures victory as always. There is a new twist here though to reflect that I'm fighting singularly powerful enemies instead of mooks. Ydwin puts another Ancestor's Memory on Tekehu as well, and he himself has one of the Barring Death's Doors. He spiritshifts into his Shark form, and joins melee combat. Ancestor's Memory will allow him to regularly use Taste of the Hunt as a powerful physical attack, and the 2nd-tier spell slots for it regularly get replenished by Ancestor's Memory. Both the Spiritshift Shark form and his Ancestor's Memory get extended endlessly by the loop.

I go through the portal at #7 for another trial. Participating as the Inquisitor and forcing a sentence on the accused, or testifying as to the accused's guilt as a witness are reliable ways to obtain a Mote of Conviction. Zarathos plays the part of a zealous prosecutor to get the Mote of Conviction.

I end up at #12. I go back the way I came and to #7.

*Evil* Mote of Hostility

The evil party goes through the portal at #5. You can participate as either the witness or the Inquisitor during the third trial. There will be dialogue options available that show an awareness that the Shackled Soul and the Inquisitor are different parts of the same soul. Dialogue options that try to alert them to that fact, and that the trials aren't real, tend to earn a Mote of Conviction, which I already have.

Attacking the members of the court is always a reliable way to get a Mote of Hostility, which is what Zarathos does here.

*Evil* Corroded Vambraces

I am now at #9. I go east and use Waidwen's Sundial on the beam of light at #10, which repairs the bridge running east.

I go to the chest at #11 and get a pair of gloves called the Corroded Vambraces. Mirke wears them as her interim gloves. They have a 50% chance on scoring a Critical Hit to reduce the target's Penetration by -1. So they can enhance Mirke's role as a tank who places a lot of emphasis on Armor Rating.

I go back through the portal at #9 and return to #5.

*Evil* Shackled Soul

I go west to #2 to speak to the Shackled Soul. I give her all of the Mote of Conviction, Mote of Hostility and the Mote of Regret. She frees herself from her bonds and bids me to follow her.

I go through the portal at #4 and to #8. The portal at #14 is now open.

*Evil* Naxiva ix Karent

I now enter the trial court again, with the Accused and Inquisitor Naxiva being hostile to each other despite being parts of the same soul. I manage to talk them into forgiving each other.

The Inquisitor disappears for a time, while I get attacked by several Strangled Souls and a pair of Wardens of Decay.

Naxiva ix Karent manifests after the battle. Zarathos talks her into helping him out against Neriscyrlas. *Good* Alliria in the good party instead convinces Naxiva to join the trail of souls following her.

I go through the portal to return to the Shattered Passage. The Drowned Kingdom is my next destination.
