MEKRATH'S LAIR

Mekrath is an evil wizard, or so it would seem, as he has kidnapped the actor Haer'Dalis and his precious gem. This is where Raelis Shai sends you to free Haer'Dalis and his gem.

  1. This is where you arrive from the Sewers. You will immediately be attacked by several Mephits.

Once you have killed Mekrath or gotten him his mirror, you will find Haer'Dalis here. He asks you to bring his gem to the theater. The gem, which appears as a "Portal Gem" in your inventory, can be found in the altar at 5.

  2. The lowermost bookshelf in this room holds a Scroll of Contingency.

The middle bookshelf holds a Scroll of Spell Deflection.

  3. Both chests in this small room are locked and trapped. The leftmost contains a Chrysoberyl Gem, a Necklace of Form Stability, and a Flamedance Ring. The rightmost contains some cash, a Silver Necklace, and a Gold Necklace.

  4. In this room waits a war party consisting of Yuan-Ti Mages and Salamanders. If they spot you in the previous room, you may have to fight in very close quarters, so try to get them in the larger room, lest they start pounding your weaker characters when they can't get to safety behind the frontline fighters.

The chest at (x=1440, y=550) is trapped and contains an Oil of Speed, a Scroll of Carrion Summons, and 400 GP.

  5. Watch out for a large floor trap and a trap on the altar in this room. You can't loot the altar until you've defeated Mekrath (one way or another) at 8.

Once you open the altar, it contains the Portal Gem you need for the Free Haer'Dalis quest, a Laeral's Tear Necklace, and a Harp of Discord.

  6. In this room you'll find Haer'Dalis. Unfortunately he is charmed by Mekrath. You will have to defeat Mekrath in order to free Haer'Dalis.

The barrel behind Haer'Dalis contains a Potion of Extra Healing.

  7. The leftmost cupboard in this room is trapped and locked. It contains a Cursed Potion of Invulnerability, a Potion of Stone Form, and a Potion of Genius.

The third cupboard from the left contains some money and a Scroll of Ghoul Touch.

  8. Here you will find Mekrath, the "evil" wizard who has abducted Haer'Dalis. If you want to avoid a fight, don't mention Haer'Dalis' gem – it actually belongs to Mekrath! Ask instead the price for releasing Haer'Dalis. Mekrath will want you to find a magic mirror that an Imp stole from him. The Imp can be found at 10 in the Sewers.

If you opt for killing Mekrath, he drops 2 Potions of Extra Healing, 2 items of minor treasure, a Quarterstaff +1, and a Mage Robe of Fire Resistance. The party gets 14,000 XP for killing Mekrath.

The barrel at (x=220, y=280) contains a bit of cash.

The fireplace at (x=130, y=270) contains a Potion of Mind Focusing, a Potion of Genius, a Rod of Resurrection, and a Wand of Cloudkill.
