THE RIFT AREA

As if going down into the old sewers wasn't enough, now you're going even further down! Apparently nobody ever comes here ... except for a variety of monsters!

  1. Here is the exit back to the Cult of the Unseeing Eye.

Once you take a few steps into the area, three Huge Spiders will teleport in and attack you.

  2. Search the "face" for traps, then disarm the trap and loot the container for Scrolls of Vampiric Touch, Hold Undead, Enchanted Weapon, and Tenser's Transformation plus a Star Diopside Gem, a Shandon Gem, an Aquamarine Gem, and a Garnet Gem.

Click the rest of the face only if you wish to release a couple of Huge Spiders and a Wandering Horror. You can do this repeatedly if you are looking for some extra experience.

  3. Here will occasionally be a Kobold or Yuan-Ti War Party, depending on your level.

  4. Another War Party or a group of Mummies and Ghasts.

  5. The first step of the stairs is trapped.

  6. To fix the bridge, you must click on it (where the cursor becomes a double arrow) and choose the right answers to the three questions.

The correct answers are "Life" (number 7), "Time" (number 9), and "The current one" (number 4). The party gains 42,250 XP.

  7. Here is a Beholder attack. Depending on your level, there may be a single Gauth, a Beholder and two Gauths, or two Beholders and three Gauths.

  8. Down here are some Shadows and Shadow Fiends waiting for you.

  9. There is a trap at the start of the bridge at (x=3360, y=1530).

  10. Here is the entrance to the temple. A diseased worshipper bids you not very heartily welcome. He and the other guardians are cursed to die and be reborn forever to serve a forgotten god.

When you exit the temple with one half of the Rift Device, he will express horror but accept that you are taking it away.

  1. Here is the exit back out to the main Rift Area.

  2. Here is an Emphatic Manifestation. The trick to killing it is that it cannot be killed by aggression, but by compassion. So don't attack but have one of your healers cast a healing spell on it!

Once the manifestation dies, the Avatar of the forgotten god appears. After some dialogue, he gives you the first half of the Rift Device.

When you return after having assembled the Rift Device, he destroys the device, killing himself in the process and setting his unwilling followers free.

The party gains 47,250 XP for bringing the Rift Device back, and you receive the shield Saving Grace +3 as an extra reward.

Incidentally you also find out that the forgotten god's name was Amaunator.

  3. The small container on top of the altar can be looted for a Scroll of Skull Trap, three Scrolls of Cure Serious Wounds, a Moonbar Gem, and a Black Opal.
