The Temple Ruins

This area houses the ruins of an old temple of the Sun god Amaunator. But today, only dark shades live here and it is perpetual night.

Which is what you have come to end!

You will come here to solve the Deaths in the Umar Hills quest. If you are a Ranger, your Stronghold quests will also bring you here a couple of times. Finally, in Chapter 6 you may have to come here in another connection.

NOTE: When you first arrive, it is perpetual night in this area and you may run into packs of Shade Wolves and Shadows throughout the map. The darkness is dispelled when you kill the Shade Lord at 7.

  1. This is where you first arrive.

  2. Here you will see a Werewolf called Anath. She hisses at you, then runs into her cave at 3.

  3. Here is the entrance to Anath's cave. Enter and speak to her. She will tell you that a Shade Lord is responsible for the troubles and offer to help you defeat him. If you accept, she will tell you to meet her at the entrance to the Dungeon at 5 and then run off.

    Search the lake in the cave for an Iol Gem, a Gold Necklace, and an Onyx Ring.

  4. Here is a mysterious hole in the ground, looking as if a large creature has recently entered it.

  5. Here is the entrance to the Level 1 of the Temple Ruins Dungeon. Problem is, it is guarded by a large number of Shadows and Shade Wolves. As soon as you turn up on the scene, Anath will tell you it is a trap, and then be killed. The easiest way to kill the enemies is to activate the mirror that reflects the sunlight and then gather the party around the crystal. The creatures will then attack and be destroyed by the light.

    A cheesy strategy is to have a Cleric cast Sanctuary and move up to activate the mirror; and then lure the Shadows and Shade Wolves into the light. ;-)

  6. Here is the entrance to Level 2 of the Temple Ruins Dungeon. You can't reach this part of the map except by going through the Dungeon.

  7. Here is where you will meet and fight the Shade Lord, his aide Shade Patrick, and the Shadows he summons. If Mazzy is in your party, she will bemoan her old companion Patrick, turned into a Shade.

    Once the Shade Lord falls, light will be restored to the area, and the Shade Lord will turn back into Merella, the former Ranger from the Umar Hills. She thanks you for freeing her and then dies. Loot her corpse for a King's Tear, a Rogue Stone, a Cloak of the Stars, and 4,876 GP.

    Shadow Patrick drops a Composite Long Bow, 40 Arrows, Darkmail +3, and the Duskblade +2 Halberd.

  8. This is where you will meet Lord Igen Tombelthen if you are doing the first of the Ranger Stronghold quests.

  9. If you are doing the Ranger Stronghold quests, this is where will find Lord Tombelthen's stash. You will only find a Mithril Amulet and Tombelthen's note.
