Bronze Beneath the Lake

Admeth's Dan

  1. Wenan is at #5 on the Admeth's Den map. He'll only give you this quest if you had previously completed the Rogue Knight quest in a way that procured the Osric's Family Breastplate for Osric. *Note* Taking this quest on means committing yourself exclusively to The Dozens, and you will not thereafter be able to take on quests for House Doemenal or the Knights of the Crucible.

He wants you to rendezvous with a group known as the Giant Slayers at the Woodend Plains, for the purposes of recovering mysterious Engwithan weapons from a place called Lle a Rhemen.

  2. Woodend Plains

  3. The Giant SlayersThe Giant Slayers will now be at #18 on the Woodend Plains. They consist of their leader, Byne "The Nimble", another warrior named Urblat "The Ripper", a Rogue named Bandon Leer, a Priest named Hannah Cade, a Druid named Nok-thar, and a Wizard named Azrael Stonebelly.

The item that you want from them is the Engraved Adra Disc. You can talk them into giving you the disc voluntarily by selecting the Diplomatic, Passionate, Rational or Stoic options and then making one of the following checks: Resolve 16, Intellect 16, Dexterity 17 or Might 17.

Alternatively, anything else, including the Aggressive dialogue options, will suffice to provoke them into attacking you. They're bunched together, and not that difficult, so a reasonably prepared mid-level party shouldn't have much trouble with them. In addition to the Disc, additional loot they leave behind will include:

  4. Stormwall Gorge

  5. You can use the Engraved Adra Disc at #4 on the Stormwall Gorge map and only during night (not during daylight). Doing so will open the entrance to the ruins of Lle a Rhemen, which are at #6.

  6. .
  7. Be forewarned that there is a contingent of Knights of the Crucible led by Commander Cafel patrolling around #5 that will attack you on sight. If you defeat them, they leave behind:
  8. Lle A Rhemen, Upper Level

  9. You start off at #1 on the map of the Upper Level of Lla a Rhemen. Much of these ruins involves trying to find and enchant a spear called Cladhaliath. I won't go into all of those details here, which can be found on the page for Upper Level of Lla a Rhemen itself. I'll instead provide the shortest path to finding what you need for this quest.

  10. You will get attacked by a lot of Widowmakers and Crystal Eaters when you first enter the room through the archway at #7. A voice will sound in your head, screaming "Thief! Intruder!" following the battle.

  11. There is a tunnel entrance at #12. There are three ways to get through to the other side at #14:

    • Expend a Hammer & Chisel to hack through to the other side.
    • Have a character make a Might check of 16 to force your way through to the other side.
    • Simply crawl through.

The first two options cause spiders to attack you and leave you at #12 if you win. Only then can you get through to #14. The third option lets you get through to #14 without getting interrupted.

The tunnel ends at #14, and you can always go back the way you came.

  12. NidrekYou will find the Vithrack named Nridek at #17, along with a LOT of Widowmakers and Crystal Eaters. He wants to leave to start a new colony, and there is a Benevolent dialogue option that will let him go free. However, if it's important to you to obtain the Cladhaliath spear, keep in mind that he will also take with him the Soul Vessel that you will need for the ritual at #10.

If you do want the Cladhaliath spear, then choose the Aggressive option and attack him. This fight can be dangerous, since his Cipher powers can render multiple party members vulnerable to the attacks of the horde of spiders. A Litany against Major Afflictions spell can be really helpful if you have it. If you win, the spiders leave behind the usual Spider Venom Sacs. Nridek himself will leave behind a Vithrack Brain and the Soul Vessel.

  13. The sarcophagus at #18 will have the Cladhaliath spear and the Ancient Engwithan Weapons.

  14. Now you can bring the weapons back to Wennan. He'll clue in that they're for all intents and purposes bronze pieces of junk. You can either tell him that their secret was in the ability of the Engwithans to enchant them with their own souls, or use a Deceptive option to indicate that you don't know.

He then starts to brood over the coming conflict with the Knights of the Crucible. At least three different replies are possible:

    • A Diplomatic reply that will not have any effect on your reputation with The Dozens
    • A Passionate reply that will result in a slight increase in positive reputation with The Dozens
    • A Rational reply that will result in a slight increase in negative reputation with The Dozens

He then indicates that he may have deliberately steered the Crucible Knights patrol your way when you came near the entrance to Lle a Rhemen. Aggressive, Passionate and Rational replies become possible.

  15. Completing the quest now means that The Dozens will become your sponsoring organization during the upcoming Animancy hearings. There are also two additional rewards.

One reward is that your main character receives the Mob Justice talent, which will give your main character a +5 Accuracy bonus when attacking the same target as an ally.

The other reward is a War Bow called Cloudpiercer.
