A Two-Story Job

Brackenbury

  1. There are two ways to trigger this quest. One way is to see Abrecan Doemenel. The entrance to House Doemenel is at #11 on the Brackenbury map.

  2. House Doemenel, Main Floor

  3. Abrecan Doemenel is at #5 on the first floor of House Doemenel. His willingness to give you the quest depends on having completed the quest called At All Costs to the satisfaction of his sister, Danna. He'll ask you to find a missive with his seal on it carried by thieves.

  4. Copperlane

  5. The entrance to the Thieves' Hideout is at #33 on the Copperlane map.

  6. Thieves' Hideout

  7. LangdenA group of thieves consisting of Langden, Dirty Rigbert, Deysay, Surica and Slecg will be about the north end of the room (around #5 on the Thieves' Hideout map). Your objective is to get the letter that Abrecan wants from them.

It is possible to trigger the quest by coming here first. If you do, the Thieves' will most certainly attack you on sight. If you kill them, they leave behind:
The Thieves' Letter is what you need to advance the quest.

However, if you went to see Abrecan before coming here, it becomes possible to convince them to give you the letter willingly, which would be preferable from Abrecan's point of view. You need to select the option that drops Abrecan's name to make those options available.

Multiple options become available after mentioning Abrecan. Saying that there's no need for violence, or selecting the Rational option, will cause them to attack you.

The Clever option, the Diplomatic option, and the Might check of 16 that also earns Aggressive disposition, will convince the Thieves' to hand over the letter willingly.

  8. Once you have the letter, you have two major possibilities on how to follow up.

  9. Reymont Manor, Main Floor

  10. One distinct possibility is to take the Letter to Lord Reymont to alert him to the intended robbery. The entrance his manor is at #4 on the Brackenbury map.

Lord Reymont himself is at #10 on the map of the first floor of the Reymont Manor. He will reward you with 2,000cp and the Ring of Unshackling. An Intellect check of 16 can convince him to fork over 500cp more.

The quest will end at that point. That also means that Abrecan Doemenel will be unhappy with you, and in turn you won't be able to complete The Changing of the Guard quest.

  11. The other possibility is to bring the Letter to Abrecan Doemenel, for which you'll earn a moderate boost of positive reputation with House Doemenel.

Abrecan will then want you to steal a gem called the Heart of White March from Lord Reymont, and implores that you do so sneakily without killing any of the Guards in the Reymont Manor. He also suggests that a window on the west side of the manor may afford a way to pull off the heist undetected.

  12. The window that Abrecan refers to is at #5 on the Brackenbury map. Climbing the vines during the scripted interaction will not work. You need to use a Rope and Grappling Hook to climb up the window and enter the Manor from there.

  13. Reymont Manor, Upper Floor

  14. You will end up at #16 on the map of the upper floor of the Reymont Manor. You may need a character with a high Stealth skill in scouting mode to pull off the next steps without detection.

  15. Your objective is to use the lever at #19 to open the door at #20, disarm the trapped chest at #22, and pilfer the Heart of White March.

Keep in mind that Reymont Guards regularly patrol the floor, including the vault room. So if you want to pull this off undetected, you may have to have your Stealth character discreetly observe the hallway until the guards are clear. And further, you may have to do this in stages. For example, you may have to use the lever to open the door and regroup near the west room, wait until the Guards come around and clear out again, and then pilfer the chest at #22 for the gem. You may need to add a third pass if you also want to pilfer the chest at #21.

  16. Bring the Heart of White March to Abrecan. He'll reward you with 3,000cp. You'll also get a major increase in positive reputation with House Doemenel if you managed the heist without killing any Reymont Guards, but no reputation change otherwise.

He will now suggest that his father, Gedmar, has work for you. The Changing of the Guard quest becomes available.
