He indicates that his friend, Perly, was mauled to death by a bear. The Bear Cave in question is at #19 on the Valewood map.
If you're playing on Easy or Medium difficulty, you'll only find the one large Bear here. If you're on Hard, you'll find an extra smaller Bear. If you're on Path of the Damned, maked that two smaller Bears as well. You may want to wait until you've picked up a few companions along the way before coming back and trying out this fight. A full party, give or take a member, should be able to overwhelm the Bear(s) in physical combat. Each Bear will leave behind a Bear Hide.
If you click on this corpse, your main character will be able to speak with the spirit of Perly. The short of it is that Nonton hamstrung Perly, leaving him to be devoured by the Bear(s). You can either choose a Benevolent response or a Cruel response in the course of the dialogue.
The entrance to Ingroed's house is at #21 in Gilded Vale. As for Ingroed and Nonton themselves, their motivation for leaving Perly to die in the bear cave was that Perly was domestically abusing Ingroed and she and Nonton ended up becoming attracted to each other. This can be discovered by a Diplomatic question or a Passionate question (also needing a Resolve of 14) if you're so inclined.
As for your options, leaving them and telling them to get out of your sight will not get you any rewards besides the usual xp bonus. Allowing them to leave in a more pleasant way will get you at least 50cp. Allowing them to leave with the Benevolent dialogue option will get you the xp bonus, the 50cp, plus a Ring of Minor Deflection, plus a moderate reputation gain with Gilded Vale. If you indicate that you're going to report them, they'll attack you. You can then get the ring from their corpses.
