A Return to Court

Great Hall, Rebuilt

  1. This task requires patch 3.0. It triggers when you return to Caed Nua for the first time after having previously completed the task called A Call to Court.

  2. Once the task triggers, a messenger will be present in the Great Hall, to the left of the Steward. The messenger will inform you that you that Chancellor Warrin wants to speak to you again in the Charred Barrel.

  3. Brackenbury

  4. The entrance to the Charred Barrel is at #2 on the Brackenbury map.

  5. Charred Barrel, Main Flor

  6. Bandit CampChancellor Warrin will be at #3 on the map of the main floor of the Charred Barrel. He'll be preturbed because he thought he was responding to a message from you.

Captain Emery and a gang of thugs will then burst in through the front door at #1 to confront you. There are multiple ways of dealing with her.

You could slaughter her and her gang. The loot will include:
This might actually be the most practical option, since it means she won't show up to attack you again during The Battle of Yenwood Field.

You could also pay her off with 2,500cp, but that only means she'll come after you again during The Battle of Yenwood Field.

You can talk her down into leaving if your main character has either 3 points of Benevolent disposition or 3 points of Cruel disposition. The possibility here is that she will attack you again during The Battle of Yenwood Field, but with the possibility that she will switch over to your side if you can turn the tide of the battle in your favor.

The encounter will conclude with Chancellor Warrin making the obvious observation that Lord Gathin must be up to something.

  7. Caed Nua, Rebuilt

  8. Return to the courtyard of Caed Nua. A mob of angry commoners will be gathered just outside the doors at #2. They're upset because thugs posing as your own soldiers have been brutalizing and robbing them. You can blow them off with Aggressive, Cruel or Diplomatic options. However, you can also select Benevolent options that also compensate them in exchange for Prestige. 100cp buys 1 point in Prestige, 500cp buys 2 points of Prestige, and 1,000cp buys 3 points of Prestige.

  9. Marshal Forwyn will speak to you briefly after the mob disperses. Benevolent and Cruel options are available. He will then enter through the doors to the Great Hall.

  10. Speak to him again inside the Great Hall. The subject of the discussion will be assembling your army to meet Lord Gathbin's army. By default your own troops are in a rather sad state, so you'll need help. You can explore these options with the Marshall:

    • You can pay him 10,000cp to hire Mercenaries.
    • You can summon allies from House Doemenel if you completed The Changing of the Guard quest for them.
    • You can summon allies from the Knights of the Crucible if you completed the Winds of Steel quest for them.
    • You can summon allies from The Dozens if you completed the Bronze Beneath the Lake quest for them.
    • You can summon Crag Ogres as allies if you completed The Ogre Matron in a way that did not end up with the deaths of Matron Beregan or any of her Crag Ogres.
    • You can summon allies from the Iron Flail army if you completed The Iron Flail quest in a way that convinced Adaryc to leave willingly.

Settling on the composition of your army marks the conclusion of this quest.

You now have the option of telling Marshall Forwyn that you want to join battle with Lord Gathbin immediately, or that you'll do it latter. If you select the latter, you can always speak to Marshall Forwyn again when you're ready to commence the battle. Indicating to Forwyn that you're ready to start begins The Battle of Yenwood Field.
