His Old Self

Goose and Fox, Main Floor

  1. Kaenra is at #10 on the main floor of the Good and Fox. She has issues with a boyfriend of hers, Purnisc. She believes that he's a Sveg addict, but an Intelligence check of 10 or a Survival check of 2 will reveal that the behaviour she describes is inconsistent with Svef addition.

She'll give you Kaenra's Ring, with the request to take it to Purnisc to mark the end of their relationship.

  2. Copperlane

  3. The entrance to Purnisc's House is at #24 on the Copperlane District map.

  4. Purnisc's House, Main Floor

  5. DannaNyrid pretending to be Purnisc can be found at #3 on the first floor of the Purnisc's House. A Perception check of 12 is possible early in the conversation which will indicate that something is not adding up.

You can at this point give him Kaenra's Ring. Clever and Stoic dialogue options can point out his lack of enthusiastic response at receiving the ring. Subsequently, Passionate and Rational dialogue responses are possible to drive that point home again.

You can choose to pick a fight with him and his Mercenaries if you're so inclined. The fight shouldn't be difficult, since your warriors will start off positioned very closely to him. The loot they leave behind includes:
If you restored your stronghold dungeons, you will also have the option to take Nyrid prisoner when he nears death.

On the other hand, you can also end the quest early by returning to Keanra and informing you that you delivered the ring. She'll then give you an amulet called Unwavering Resolve, plus you give a minor reputation boost with Defiance Bay.

  6. However, it is also possible to delve further. A Merchenary stands guard at #5. You can attack him, and he and any other nearby Mercenaries will attack you in return. You can also pay him 100cp or make a Resolve check of 14 to get by him without a fight.

  7. The stairs leading up to the next floor are at #7.

  8. Purnisc's House, Upper Floor

  9. The party will then be at #8 on the second floor map. A group of Mercenaries will be standing guard at #11. The loot they leave behind includes:
The key opens the door at #14.

  10. The real Purnisc will be at #15. Aggressive and Diplomatic options are available when it becomes apparent he's hiding an agenda of his own. He'll want you to kill his imposter downstairs, who is really a Wizard named Nyrid.

  11. When you confront Nyrid downstairs, his initial inclination will be to order his guards to attack you. You can, however, strike a deal with him. The deal is to kill Purnisc in exchange for being able to buy Svef from Nyrid at a discount. Completing the deal requires force-attacking Purnisc upstairs. Doing things this way earns Cruel disposition and a minor hit of negative reputation with Defiance Bay. Kaenra will also be completely absent from the Goose and Fox afterwards.

  12. You can also go through with killing Nyrid. The loot remains the same, as is the possibility of taking him prisoner if your stronghold dungeons have been rebuilt.

  13. You have multiple choices when you go back to Purnisc. You could force-kill him, even after having killed Nyrid. You would afterwards have a few choices when you go back to Kaenra. The Cruel, Honest, and Passionate responses involve admitting to having killed Purnisc, upon which she will be appalled and leave without having given you Unwavering Resolve. The Deceptive option puts the blame on Nyrid, and means that that Kaenra will still give you Unwavering Resolve.

  14. If you leave Purnisc alive, he'll want you to lie to Kaenra to cover his Svef dealing ways. Honest and Deceptive replies are possible in response to that request. It is also possible to make a Might check of 14 that earns Aggressive disposition that strongarms him into cutting you a discount on Svef purchases. That is ultimately immaterial, because he would still be willing to give you the discount anyway at the conclusion of the quest.

  15. If you killed Nyrid and left Purnisc alive, you would then have multiple options when you return to Kaenra. They come in two distinct branches, but all possibilities result in her rewarding you with Unwavering Resolve.

  16. One branch involves a Deceptive option that covers Purnisc's Svef trade, and will not result in any increase in reputation with Defiance Bay. She will indicate a desire to go back to Purnisc, but she also wants Kaenra's Ring back. The Cruel and Deceptive replies allow you to keep the ring, although you can't do anything with the ring or sell it. The Benevolent option returns the ring to her.

  17. The other branch involves telling her the truth about Purnisc being a Svef deal, and earns a moderate reputation boost with Defiance Bay. The Rational and Stoic replies convince her to break it off with Purnisc, and will result in another slight reputation boost with Defiance Bay. The Benevolent and Passionate replies convince her to give Purnisc another chance, and earn another moderate reputation boost with Defiance Bay.
