Through Death's Gate

  1. The prerequisite is to complete the Never Far From the Queen quest.

  2. Dyrford Village

  3. The first step is to enter the Temple of Berath at #4 on the Dyrford Village map, and speak with Harbinger Beodmar. The point here is to discover the location of the ruins seen in a vision shown to you by the Shrouded Woman. At some point Beodmar will want to know why you want to find the ruins. Aggressive, Deceptive, Honest and Stoic replies are possible.

In any event, he will reveal Cliaban Rilag on the World Map.

  4. Cliaban Rilag, Exterior

  5. You start off at #1 on the map of exterior of Cliaban Rilag. There are two ways to enter the ruins.

  6. You can jump across the bridge at #7 during a scripted interaction so as to reach the entrance at #8. The character with the lowest Athletics skill is likely to sustain an injury after the jump. The entrance here allows entry into the first level of the ruins at #11.

  7. The other way is to kill the group of Glanfathan Warriors led by Sleofhota at #9. You can either choose to fight them during the initial dialogue, or trying to move past them and to the entrance which will result in them attacking you.

If you do kill them, they leave behind 2 War Bows, 3 Spears, 4 Hide Armors and a Fine Hide Armor.

The entrance at #10 allows entry into the first level of the ruins at #12.

  8. Cliaban Rilag, Level 1

  9. There will be plenty of monsters to fight if you fully explore the dungeon. However, your next destination is the room at #22. It will have lots of Sporelings, and a few Dank Spores. It is advisable to lead the Sporelings away from the room so that you can kill them off first while the Dank Spores remain stationary. I then recommend taking out each Dank Spore one at a time with missile fire, as the room is also littered with a lot of traps throughout.

All of the monsters will leave behind Sporelings when killed.

  10. The stairs at #24 lead down to the second level at #29.

  11. Cliaban Rilag, Level 2

  12. There will likewise be plenty of monsters to fight throughout this level. However, the Engwithan Key can be found at a pool at #35. The key can be used to open doors at spots labelled #39, although a good enough Mechanics skill will open the doors as well.

  13. The stairs at #40 lead back up to the first level at #25.

  14. Through Death's GateAt #26 is the Engwithan Machine that is relevant to the quest. You can't interact with it directly, but you will get xp for discovering it.

An ashen effigy is at #27. Using your Watcher abilities to interact with it will reveal that the Leaden Key have been using this and similar machines all over Dyrwood to steal souls from newborn babies, leading to the Hollowborn crisis. This discovery marks the completion of the quest.

  15. If you had completed this quest before either The Man Who Waits or the Undying Heritagte quests, then a Messenger of the Dunryd Row will speak to you in the exterior of Cliaban Rilag once you leave the Ruins. The dialogue will trigger the The Hermit of Hadret House quest.
