DEN OF THE SEVEN VALES

This inn offers cheap accommodation for the weary traveler. Before going to rest you could of course enjoy a drink at the bar and possibly learn something of what is happening in the neighborhood.

  1. Here is the exit back out to Waukeen's Promenade.

  2. Here are the stairs up to the second floor.

  3. Here is the landlady Patricia who will sell you drinks and lodgings.

Patricia refuses to serve Viconia because she is Drow but you can just let another NPC speak to her.

  1. Here are the steps back down to the first floor.

  2. Here you will find Mencar Pebblecrusher, a less than polite dwarf who will try to provoke a fight. I suggest that you control your wrath unless your party is reasonably advanced; his party really packs a punch!

NOTE (unverified): Our reader Mike writes in with a battle strategy: "This fight is quite simple after leaving Irenicus' Dungeon; by this time Jaheira should have Insect Plague. Memorize this spell as it will 1) lock down all spellcasting by the mage and his Pooky, 2) cause random terror with the enemies and 3) it will continuously damage all enemies in the room.

Before you trigger the attack, move your rogue (either yourself or Yoshimo) in stealth behind the mage or, if you can pull it off, behind the other rogue and send Jaheira in to cast Insect Plague on anyone but the mage as he uses Shadow Door to invis out and it will cause the spell to fail (don't worry, Insect Plague will spread to them all).

Sending Jaheira in will trigger the conversation; after the conversation (if you haven't already), pause and initiate your rogue's backstab of your target (mage or thief) and move any heavy hitters to the berserker. Hopefully you swung by to pick up Aerie and have her use Hold Person on the dwarf; it may take 1 or 2, but he usually fails it. If you have done this right you will easily shoot the mage (or at least freak out the rogue), lock down Pooky (and possibly the mage if he isn't dead) and have a silly dwarf standing like a fool, unable to do anything. You should kill the berserker first, then the thief and then the dwarf, saving Pooky (and possibly the mage) for last as without their spells, they are worthless.
    "

Mencar drops Full Plate Mail, a Helmet, 2 Potions of Extra Healing, a Potion of Fire Giant Strength, a War Hammer +1, and some minor treasure.

    Pooky drops nothing.

Sorcerous Amon drops a Wand of Lightning, a Cloak of Non-detection, a Potion of Extra Healing, and minor treasure.

Smaeluv Orcslicer drops Hide Armor, Cursed Berserking Sword +3, and minor treasure.

Brennan Riesling drops Studded Leather Armor +1, Ring of Invisibility, a Short Sword +1, a Small Shield, minor treasure, an Oil of Speed, and a Potion of Invisibility.

Once you are done with the fighting, you can loot the three chests:

The chest at (x=400, y=510) is trapped and contains 4 Arrows +1.

The two chests at (x=180, y=400) and (x=270, y=330) contain minor treasure.
