Ah, the circus! The smell of sawdust, the clowns, the acrobats ... and the magicians! In fact, I have heard that the Circus in Waukeen's Promenade has a new Gnomen Illusionist who is extremely clever.

Maybe a bit too clever!

To enter the Circus for the first time, you have to speak to the guard outside and suggest that you examine what is going on inside.

  1. Here is where you enter from Waukeen's Promenade. Note that you can't exit again - once you have entered, there is no way except forward.

  2. Here you will meet a Genie who demands that you answer a riddle to pass the bridge. The correct answer to the riddle is, "The prince is 30 and the princess is 40". A correct answer gives you 19,500 XP.

    If you get the first riddle wrong, the Genie asks a second riddle. This time, the answer is "Nothing" and gets you 14,500 XP.

    If you get both riddles wrong, you'll have to fight the Genie. He is worth 5,000 XP, so it pays off to guess his riddles instead.

  3. Here is the entrance to Level 2 of the Circus.

  4. Here you will find some monsters. Some are illusions and some aren't, so if you have access to True Seeing or a similar spell, it would be very useful.

  1. Here is an ogre named Aerie who begs you in the voice of a young woman to flee. Press her for information, and she tells you that she is a winged Elf, but that a powerful illusion has been cast over the entire Circus.

    Aerie asks you to get her sword from the "peasants" at 7. The sword is really a key that will dispell the illusion cast on her.

    Once you have the sword, give it to Aerie for 18,500 XP. She will turn back into a young Elven woman and offer to join the party.

  2. Here is a spider with the voice of a woman. Don't kill it; it is really Hannah, the mother of the boy Giran you met outside the Circus.

  3. These two "peasants" are really Orcs. Kill them both. One of them drops a Scroll of Friends, the other drops the Ogre's Sword.

  4. Here you will find a Pleasure Slave who offers some more cryptic information on "Kalah". You will also find the exit to Level 3 of this circus.

  1. Here is the entrance from Level 2. You will immediately be attacked by Shadows and Werewolves. The Shadows are real, the Werewolves are illusions.

  2. Here are more monsters to fight - illusions and real!

  3. At the bottom of the stairs are two vases that contain a Scroll of Protection from Petrification, a Scroll of Dispel Magic, and a Scroll of Web.

    On the stairs you will meet the Genie again. This time it only asks if you are ready to face Kalah.

    At the top of the stairs is the entrance to Level 4.

  1. Here is the entrance from Level 3.

  2. Here is Kalah. He gives you a short dialog before turning hostile and attacking the jelly to his right which is apparently Aerie's Uncle Quayle. You will also be attacked by several Shadows (real) and Werewolves (illusions), so try to get a Dispel Magic or True Seeing spell off to get rid of the illusions.

    Concentrate all fire on Kalah and he should go down real quick for 2,000 XP. Once he dies, the illusions disappear, and you find yourself in the real circus.

  1. Here is the exit back out to Waukeen's Promenade. This is also where you find Kalah's body after killing him. He drops a Girdle of Piercing; a Ring of Human Influence; 20 Bullets; a Sling; a Flail; scrolls of Identify, Infravision, Magic Missile, Stinking Cloud, and Stoneskin; plus one or two minor pieces of treasure.

    The party also gains 25,000 XP once Kalah's dialog is over and he dies.

  2. Here you can find Quayle, Aerie's uncle and one of your old companions from Baldur's Gate. If you don't accept Aerie into your party, or if you drop her at a later time, this is also where you will find her.

  3. Here is Giran's mother Hannah. Speak to her for 500 XP and she will go to reunite with her son.
