Stranded
- The quest begins the moment you arrive at #1 on the map of Vilario's
Rest.
- It is advisable to do the Helping
Hands quest, to get yourself some crew members for your ship.
- Travel to Port Maje
Harbor, which is at #5 on the map of Maje
Island.
- You initially arrive at #1 on the map of Port Maje Harbor. A #2 will
be a public argument between Governor Clario and Stormspeaker Iawha,
surrounded by a very angry crowd. Passionate and Shady replies are
possible in response to the accusation that you yourselves are pirates.
Governor Clario will express a willingness to help you get your ship
back up and running, before the gathering itself dissipates.
- Governor Clario will now be in his estate, the entrance to which is at
#17 on the map of Port
Maje Harbor. He wants the party to find out what happened with the
Animancers, their leader named Oderisi in particular, at a nearby
Engwithan Dig Site.
- The entrance to the Engwithan
Digsite is at #10 on the map of Maje
Island.
- The pit at #10 has a few Young Panthers and Wurms. Veteran or Path of
the Damned settings may have them led by a Young Drake. A good approach
is to find a good bottleneck, like between the entrance at #6 and the
table at #7, and force them to fight you one or two at a time.
- Freeing the Animancers from the
cage at #11 will progress the quest. Aloth
will be among the Animancers, and he can now join you as a companion.
- The entrance to the Arena
Sub-Level is at #12 on the map of the Engwithan
Digsite. You will have to defeat at least the monsters at #11 and #13 in the Sub-Level to clear the
way.
Make your way to Oderisi's soulless husk at #17 on the map of the
Arena-Sublevel. Click on it to obtain Oderisi's
Notes, which progress the quest.
You'll also have your first direct interaction with Eothas. You have three options with respect to the Souls imprisoned inside his Adra body, and each leads to a different power:
- Reaching out to the Souls gains the power called Sympathy for the Lost (Enemies are Distracted (-5 Perception, Flanked) and allies gain +35 Health in 2.5 radius, once per Rest).
- Pushing past the Souls to find your own Soul gains the power called No Pity for the Lost (Enemies are Distracted (-5 Perception, Flanked) in 2.5 radius, Watcher gains Steadfast (+5 Resolve), once per Rest).
- Shouting at Eothas to stop gains the power called Chorus for the Lost (Enemies are Distracted (-5 Perception, Flanked) and Hobbled (-5 Dexterity, cannot run) in 2.5 radius, once per Rest).
The power is gained once you leave the Sub-Level. Each power can be upgraded when completing the Quest called He Waits in Fire.
- Return to Governor Clario. You get an xp rewards whether you keep Oderisi's Notes for
yourself, or give them to him and earn a major boost to positive
reputation with Port Maje.
There's various dialogue options that involve skill checks and / or
increase dispositions. The one notable option is the Paladin's stated
intention to fulfill duty and continue to pursue Eothas, which earns
approval from Aloth.
- Return to Vilario's
Rest. Stormspeaker Ikawha and several of her villagers will put
the ship back together for you. The Defiant is now at least minimally
seaworthy and you can begin oversea travel.
Visage of Death's Herald
Leaving on your newly repaired ship completes this Quest. But completion
of the Quest triggers a point where your Visage of Death's Herald Power
can get upgraded. It occurs when you sail long enough on the World
Map following completion of the Quest. Many of your dialogue choices
can be categorized as either Aggressive, Sassy or Diplomatic. How many of
each categories of replies you make will affect which upgrade on Visage of
Death's Herald you receive. They also affect your reputation (positive or
negative) with the Gods who are participating in the discussion. The
breakdown now follows.
Berath either says "I tasked you to discover Eothas' intentions. Tell me
what you have learned." or "Do not give me cause to doubt your commitment,
Watcher." Possible replies:
- "He's draining souls from veins of luminous adra." Diplomatic,
positive with Berath.
- "He's stomping around the Deadfire yanking up souls like a giant adra
soul magnet." (Passionate disposition) Sassy.
- "It's too early to be sure what he plans, but his behavior is
suspicious." Diplomatic, negative with Berath.
- "I can't follow Eothas around if you're going to keep dragging my soul
into the Beyond whenever the whim takes you." (Clever disposition)
Aggressive, negative with Berath.
Woedica says: "A moon would do nicely." Possible replies:
- "If you think that's the appropriate solution, I won't stand in your
way." Diplomatic, positive with Woedica.
- "Given her relationship with the moon, I doubt Ondra would approve of
that plan." (Clever disposition) Sassy, positive with Woedica.
- "Uh, I'm pretty sure we need that." (Rational disposition) Sassy.
- "You would destroy Eora for what, spite?" Aggressive, positive with
Hylea, negative with Woedica.
Magran says: ""To move against him while his plans are unknown would be the
height of foolishness! We must find wisdom in precaution." Possible replies:
- "Sure, great idea. Can I go now?" Sassy, negative with Berath.
- "What kind of 'precautions' do you suggest?" Diplomatic, positive with
Magran.
- "I don't care what you do. Just put me back in my body so I can get
this charade over with." (Passionate disposition) Aggressive, positive
with Skaen.
Hylea to Skaen: "You- you wretched little creature- !" Possible replies:
- "Attempting to end Eothas may only make things worse." Diplomatic,
positive with Magran.
- "He's too dangerous. You have to destroy him." (Aggressive
disposition) Aggressive, negative with Magran.
Magran says either "His vessel may be destroyed, little Watcher, but Eothas
is more than the vessel that holds him. He will always return, however we
strike him down." or "However, if we push him to the brink of reason, there
is no telling what he may do. He is, as ever, unpredictable." The only
possible reply that earns any points is the Sassy reply of: "Then what's the
point of this exercise?" It also scores positive with Woedica, but scores
negative with Berath and Magran.
Woedica says: "There is no sensible answer to the question of a resurgent
Eothas other than decisive, final action." Possible replies:
- "Something must be done." Aggressive, positive with Woedica and Skaen,
negative with Berath and Magran.
- "There's no cause to act now." (Diplomatic disposition) Diplomatic,
positive with Berath.
Berath says: "Your debt to me remains unpaid." Possible replies:
- "I'll do what I can." Diplomatic.
- "I only do this because I must." Diplomatic, positive with Magran.
- "We'll see about that." Sassy.
- "This is such bullshit!" (Passionate disposition) Aggressive, positive
with Skaen, negative with Berath.
If you made three or more Aggressive replies, and had more Aggressive
replies than Diplomatic or Sassy replies, then Visage of Death's Herald gets
replaced with Ire of Death's Herald. It works the same, but now the Watcher
will get the Strong (+5 Might) Inspiration for 30 sec as well when
activating it.
If you made three or more Sassy replies, and had more Sassy replies than
Diplomatic replies, then Visage of Death's Herald gets replaced with Wit of
Death's Herald. This upgrade also works the same, but adds the Smart (+5
Intellect) Inspiration for the Watcher for 30 sec.
If you made three or more Diplomatic replies, then Visage of Death's Herald
gets replaced with Mien of Death's Herald. And again it works the same, but
adds the Insightful (+5 Perception) for the Watcher for 30 sec.
If your replies were such as to qualify for the Ire upgrade but others as
well, you will get Ire as it takes priority over Wit or Mien. If you qualify
for both Wit or Mien, you will get Wit as a priority over Mien.
If you don't get at least three of any of Aggressive, Sassy or Diplomatic
replies, you remain with Visage of Death's Herald.
Blade Fragments
You'll thereafter end up belowdeck for your ship. There were will be
three items within easy reach when you're below deck. They are the Fragments
of the Blade of the Endless Paths, the Fragments
of Whispers of Yenwood, and a Letter
from Aufra. The first two can each be used to forge weapons.
