This location is known as Ilonet's Fork. There will be a wagon with
members of the Children of the Dawnstars here, worshippers of Eothas.
You can make a Stealth check of 1 to gain a little extra information
about them, or approach them openly, but neither matters much in terms
of how the end result can play out.
Their wagon is stuck in the mud, and there's more than one way to handle
the situation. One way is for either you or Eder
to make a Might check of 15 to get their wagon out of the mud. Doing so
will win approval from Eder, gain
positive reputation with the Children of the Dawnstars, and earn 15
silver fenning.
Other ways can bring about greater monetary benefit, but involve losing
influence with the Children of the Dawnstars, or with Eder,
or both.
A Sleight of Hand check of 2 will get their strongbox, which will get an
extre three Peridots in addition to
the 15 silver fenning. It won't lose any influence with the Children of
the Dawnstars, but it will lose a little with Eder.
You can also make an Intimidate check of 1 to force them to give what
they have, the silver and the Peridots.
It loses minor influence with both Eder
and the Children.
At the end of it, whether you helped them or stole from them, you also
have the choice of letting them go or attacking them. Doing so will
result in losing influence with both the Children and Eder.
In fact, the latter will voice his displeasure afterwards should you win
the battle. The loot includes a few generic items, with a Scepter left
behind by a Priest, as well as a Potion
of Minor Healing.
Here is a Burial Site, from which you can get random loot.
Here are Orchards from which you can get Fresh Fruit.
Here are the Upoho Wharo Woods,
wherein resides an Old Druid and a few Boars. Clicking on it begins a
scripted interaction.
A Survival check of 2 and a Perception check of 12 can reveal a sigil
marked on a tree. A History check of 1 can reveal a little more of its
origins.
The Druid and his Boars start to make their way towards you. You can
greet him and begin the encounter with him, or you can make a Stealth
check of 2 to keep hidden for the time being.
If you make the first Stealth check, you can choose to confront him
openly or make another Stealth check of 4 to get out of the Woods
entirely.
If you do decide to confront him, or if you fail to make any of the
Stealth checks, you have some options for how to go about things.
You can choose to attack him straightaway. If you win, he'll leave
behind the Wise Teeth Necklace,
and a couple of Tusks, along with
a few other miscellaneous items.
You can parley with him for a bit, and then a few dialogue options will
show up. One of them chooses battle, but using the Intimidate skill. It
earns disapproval from Eder,
whereas attacking right away without any extended parley won't.
A Diplomacy check of 2 followed by either a Survival check of 3 or an
Insight check of 3 can convince him to let you leave willingly. And
he'll freely give you the Wise Teeth
Necklace.
Here is an Old Battleground, from which you can get random armor and weapons.
Here is a farm where you can purchase plenty of food items, especially
of the cheaper kind.
Here is Whakura Pass, which is inhabited by Xaurips. You can make
things easier on yourself by having one of your party members, typically
Eder if you made him a
multi-class Swashbuckler, make a Survival check of 1 to avoid the
tripwire, and a Mechanics check of 1 to disarm the Corrosive Trap.
You now have another two choices. One is to quietly leave the area, without
any confrontation with the Xaurips. Another is to search for them.
If you search for them, you can go for a straight frontal assault that
begins combat then and there.
Sneaking up on them provides a few more options. One option is to go into Stealth mode to get close to them before attacking them in combat.
Other options after sneaking use Class-specific abilities to get rid of them. A Ranger can scare them away with a few well-placed shots. A Cipher can
force them to kill each other. Any caster class that has a spell that
can cause damage to multiple targets, including Xoti
with Iconic Projection, or your own Watcher if he or she has an
offensive spell, can drive them away with the spell. Any of those
scenarios lead to you getting some loot without a fight.
However you resolved the situation, getting past the Pass also clears
the way to reach the nearby Engwithan Digsite.
