The Last Pilgrimmage

Harbinger's Watch

  1. Complete the The Higher-Ups Task to trigger this Quest. You'll be in the residence of Harbinger Brythe upon the completion of the Task. Entrances to her residence will be at points marked #3 on the map of Harbinger's Watch. She still has questions about the fate of her sister, Ehyrs, who had joined the cult of pilgrims you had destroyed at her behest.

  2. The cliff wall at #4 provides access the Outcrop on High.
  3. Outcrop on High

  4. You will start off at #1.

There will be a rope and grappling hook at #11, and it leads down to the Rimebound Temple through a scripted interaction.

A Perception check of 14 on the way down reveals an object lodged in the ice. You can have a character make a Might check of 16 to pull it out of the ice. Making the check will result in a War Hammer called Glacierbane going into your inventory then and there.

If you initially attempt to get the item but decide you can't make the Might chec, a couple of alternatives become available. Those alternatives are to use either a fire-based spell (e.g., Fireball) or an Immolator to melt the ice around it. Glacierbane will drop down to the bottom. That means you'll have to make your to the Rimebound Temple and then pick it up.
  5. Rimebound Temple

  6. You start off at #1 on the map of the Rimebound Temple.

Make your way to the cave entrance at #3. Keep in mind there will be a few traps in front of it, so you may need to raise your Perception (like with a Drug like Svef) to find them and disarm them.

The entrance itself leads to the Eastern Cavern.
  7. Eastern Cavern

  8. You'll now be at #1 on the map of the Eastern Cavern. You'll have to fight several more Pilgrims at #2. They do have a tripwire in place, so going into stealth mode and disarming it first is recommended.

  9. EhrysEhrys will be at #3. She wants to weld her soul to a nearby Rime Construct so that she can become an immortal (although mindless) guardian for Rymrgand. The Watcher can use his or her powers to help that along. If you do, Ehyrs will use her new body to open the door at #4 and station herself at #6. You can also find Rime Construct Fluid on her old body, which may help with the Toasting the Dead Task.

You can instead try to convince her to abandon the idea of gaining a new body and reunite with her sister. Starting that requires either an Insight check of 10, the Laborer or Dissident background, or the Mystic background combined with a Religion check of 8. That only gets you partway though. You then need to follow up with the Watcher being a Monk, having the Mystic background, a Diplomacy check of 14, or a Religion check of 15. Ehrys will then seek out Brythe in Harbinger's Watch.

  10. Return to Brythe. You'll get 5,000cp and 6,500+ xp if you convinced Ehrys to return to her, although Brythe will note that her sister seems more detached.

There are different possibilities if you actually helped Ehrys become a Rime Construct. One is to make a Bluff check of 10 to convince Brythe that Ehrys is now dead.

Brythe will become distraught if you admit that you helped Ehrys become a Construct. Either a Bluff check of 14 or a combined History check of 12 and Metaphysics check of 11 can convince Brythe not to seek out Ehyrs.

Brythe will otherwise go to see Ehrys. If you return to #6 in the Eastern Cavern, you will find Brythe's dead body after she has been killed by Ehrys as a Rime Construct who remains nearby.
