THE RING OF LATHANDER

You can get this quest after you have completed the Sir Sarles quest. The quest plays differently depending on your class and alignment.

If you are a Cleric of Good alignment, you will be working for the Temple of Lathander.

If you are a Cleric of Evil alignment, you will be working for the Temple of Talos.

If you are not a Cleric or you are a Cleric of Neutral alignment, you get the quest from the Temple of Helm.

Temple of Helm

If you are not a Cleric or you are a Cleric of Neutral alignment, you get the quest from Guardian Telwyn at 2 in the Temple of Helm. The temple usually remains neutral in the battles between the other two temples of Lathander and Talos but now Talos threatens to gain too much power, unsettling the balance. Telwyn sends you to speak to Dawnbringer Sain in the Temple of Lathander.

  1. Go to the Temple of Lathander and find Dawnbringer Sain at 4 on that map.

  2. Sain explains the matter: One of the temple's artifacts, a Dawn Ring, has been stolen by thieves commissioned by the Temple of Talos. You must go to the Slums at night and intercept the delivery of the ring. It is in the possession of a thief called Travin.

  3. If it is not night, sleep or do another quest until nightfall. Then go to the Slums.

  4. At night, Travin will be at 11 on the Slums map. Speak to him.

  5. Travin tries to demand a price of 400 GP. Call his bluff, or give him the money if you fancy being cheated by thieves. ;-) Either way, he points you to Borinall's house on top of the Copper Coronet, at 13 on the map.

  6. Find your way to the top of the Copper Coronet and pick the lock to Borinall's house. Enter.

  7. Borinall demands that you swear an oath that you are a follower of Talos before he will give you the ring. Since you are not a follower of Talos, and Talos dislikes people who swear falsely in his name, swearing such an oath will get you struck by lightning. So don't.

  8. You will have to fight Borinall and three Muggers. Borinall drops the Dawn Ring.

  9. Before leaving, loot the house for minor treasure. The table in the middle of the room contains a War Hammer +1.

  10. Return to the Temple of Lathander and speak to Dawnbringer Sain again. The party receives 16,250 XP and 1,000 GP.

Temple of Lathander

If you are a Good Cleric, you get this quest from Dawnbringer Sain at 4 in the Temple of Lathander. The followers of Talos have stolen a valuable artifact, the Dawn Ring, from the Lathander temple and your job is to get it back.

  1. Dawnbringer Sain tells you that the ring should be in the possession of a Thief named Travin whom you can meet in the Slums after dark. So, wait until nightfall and then go to the Slums District. Travin will be at 11 north of the Copper Coronet.

  2. Travin tries to charge you a fee for telling you where the Dawn Ring is. Call his bluff, and he directs you to Borinall's House at 13 on top of the Copper Coronet.

  3. Go to Borinall's House and pick the lock on the door. Enter.

  4. Borinall asks you to swear an oath that you serve Talos before he will give you the ring. Don't swear to that; Talos, the evil god of storms, doesn't like it when people swear false in his name and you will be struck by lightning, and Borinall will laugh at your expense. So you will just be shooting yourself in the foot.

  5. Because whether you swear false or not, you will eventually have to fight Borinall and three muggers. Not a difficult fight. Borinall drops the Dawn Ring.

  6. Before leaving, loot the house for minor treasure. The table in the middle of the room contains a War Hammer +1.

  7. Return to the Temple of Lathander and deliver the Dawn Ring to Dawnbringer Sain. The party is rewarded with 16,250 XP and 1,000 GP.

Temple of Talos

If you are an Evil Cleric, you get the quest from Talon Yarryl at 4 in the Temple of Talos. The temple has hired a thief to steal a Dawn Ring from the Lathander Temple. Your job is to obtain the ring from the thief and bring it back to the temple.

  1. Wait until night and then go to the Slums District. The thief you are looking for is called Travin and can be found at 11.

  2. Travin tries to pull a fast one on you by demanding money for the information you seek. Since this wasn't part of the deal, threaten him instead of paying him. Travin refers you to Borinall's House at 13 on top of the Copper Coronet.

  3. Go to Borinall's House, pick the lock on the door, and enter.

  4. Borinall has the ring, however he will not hand it over willingly unless you will do him one little favor: You must swear your allegiance to Talos!

  5. Since you are working for the Talos temple, just swear the oath he demands. Borinall gives you the Dawn Ring and leaves.

  6. While here, you may as well loot the house for minor treasure. The table in the middle of the room contains a War Hammer +1.

  7. All that remains is to bring the ring back to Talon Yarryl. The party gains 16,250 XP.
