An Ice Troll will be here. It should be fairly easy to kill, and will leave behind a Troll Skin and an Ice Troll Heart when killed. There will also be several River Reeds around this spot as well. Both the River Reed and the Ice Troll Heart are items that are helpful for purposes of completing the quest called A Lovely Drop.
Here is a shrine to the god of the hunt, Galawain. It is relevant to The Hunter's Favor quest.
Here the party will encounter several Elven Slavers led by Vamrel who have captured a Crag Ogre. A fight is inevitable no matter what you say. It's an easy fight even for lower-level parties since the Crag Ogre will free himself and hold up several of the Elves, leaving the party to easily take out one or two and then move on to the others who will have softened by the Crag Ogre. The loot will include:
The prize her will be a Sabre called Bittercut. It's key feature is that it will inflict Corrosive damage instead of Slashing damage if the target's Corrosive Damage Reduction is lower than its Slashing Damage Reduction, which is almost always the case. This weapon is of particular interest to Bleak Walker builds, since the Spirit of Decay talent will increase not only the basic damage from Bittercut itself, but also the Corrosive Lash damage from the Remember Rakhan Field talent.
A shrub will be here, and it provides a clue that a Wolf has been nearby for purposes of The Hunter's Favor quest.
Here is where you can find Laenric and the rest of the Old Dunryd Lodge if you are pursuing the bounty offered by Tealdor on him.
There will be some Ice Beetles here. They will leave behind Beetle Shells when killed.
There will be a deer carcass with wounds indicative of a savage predator. They operate as clues for purposes of The Hunter's Favor quest.
There will be a Winter Wolf here that has been injured by an arrow that is still in it. If you want to safely get the arrow out, there's one of two ways.
One way is if your main character has the Field Triage talent, in which case you can safely get the arrow out in one step.
The other way is for your main character to be either a Druid, a Chanter, or to make a Resolve check of 16. After that, one of your characters needs to have a minimum rank of 7 in the Survival skill to complete the extraction.
Whether you get the arrow out safely, or end up killing the Wolf trying, you'll get the Silver Arrow, which is a constituent item for the soulbound Stormcaller bow.
There will be some Greater Ice Blights here. They leave behind Primal Winds and Primal Waters when killed.
There is an Ice Crater. You'll get a little xp for discovering it, but it otherwise does not have much significance.
There will a pack of Winter Wolves here, led by a pair of Feral Druids. The loot they leave behind includes:
There will be an abandoned camp here. A chest on the left will have several Speckleback Jerkies. There will also be a Brintwyn Ban on the right side.
Also on the right side will be a hidden chest that can only be discovered while in scouting mode. It will have a random potion, some coins, as well as the Hunter's Totem. The last item is a quest item for The Hunter's Favor quest.
You will find Defala and her crew of Slave Trackers here if you have started the Overstaying His Welcome quest.
An acolyte of Ondra named Qexetl will throw something into this lake in the course of the Regrets Worth Trading quest.
The objective here is to somehow retrieve the Empty Giftbearer Chest to advance the quest.
Here your Watcher character will witness a vision of a Wizard named Ninagauth confronting and murdering a former apprentice of his. The vision also hints at a stolen item. Activating scouting mode will then reveal an item cache that holds the Tattered Map. The Tattered Map itself can be used to find Ninagauth's Grimoire in Durgan's Battery.
There will be a few Ice Trolls and Lagufaeth Sidewinders here, led by a Lagufaeth Broodmother. The Broodmother is capable of casting Druid spell. The Ice Trolls leave behind Troll Skins while the Lagufaeth leave behind Lagufaeth Livers. The Broodmother will also leave behind a Fine Pike while each Sidewinder leaves behind a pair of Clubs.
A crate here will have a couple of miscellaneous items, plus a Rope and Grappling Hook and some Camping Supplies.
Here you'll find a pack of Fampyrs and Darguls, led by Felisa. A Stoic reply is possible leading into inevitable combat. Keep in mind that Fampyrs can charm party members at a distance. and having multiple party members charmed can make such battles a doomed exercise. A Prayer of Bewilderment spell from a Priest once combat starts is an easy way to address that difficulty. Otherwise, look for spells or other abilities that increase your Will defense. All of the undead will leave behind Vessel Flesh. Additional loot includes:
If you completed The Ogre Matron quest without killing Matron Beregan AND without killing any of the other Crag Ogres inside the cave, Matron Beregan will introduce you to a Crag Ogre Merchant named Murag. He will be here just outside the entrance to the caves. He sells plenty of armor and weapons, plus some miscellaneous items, including Camping Supplies. The two distinctive items in his inventory are the Tempered Helm and the Gauntlets of Ogre Might.
