The Hunter's Favor

Stalwart Village

  1. Thyrsc will be in his house at #7 on the Stalwart Village map. Aggressive and Benevolent replies will be available during a conversation with him. He'll trigger the quest by explaining that he has tried for at least the past couple of years trying to hunt a particularly dangerous Wolf to no avail, and would appreciate it if somebody could so that it doesn't kill any more villagers.

  2. Russetwood

  3. There will be a Winter Wolf at #17 on the Russetwood map that has been injured by an arrow that is still in it. If you want to safely get the arrow out, there's one of two ways.

One way is if your main character has the Field Triage talent, in which case you can safely get the arrow out in one step.

The other way is for your main character to be either a Druid, a Chanter, or to make a Resolve check of 16. After that, one of your characters needs to have a minimum rank of 7 in the Survival skill to complete the extraction.

Whether you get the arrow out safely, or end up killing the Wolf trying, you'll get the Silver Arrow, which is a constituent item for the soulbound Stormcaller bow.

Safely extracting the arrow without killing it is not necessary to complete the quest. However, it allows for the possibility of completing the quest in a way that some players may find morally optimal. More on that in just a bit.

  4. At #6 on the Russetwood map is a shrine to the god of the hunt, Galawain. Using your Watcher abilities on the shrine will result in a vision of a wolf-like beast that is furious at something have gone missing.

  5. The entrance to the Wolf Cave is at #10 on the Russetwood map.

  6. Wolf Cave

  7. Druid WolfInside the Wolf Cave will be several Winter Wolves led by a Druid Wolf, along with a pair of wounded hunters. One way to handle this is to save the Hunters by choosing the Passionate response that will start combat with the Druid Wolf and his minions. The Hunters will thank you and thereafter appear outside of Thyrsc's house in Stalwart Village. Note also that an Intellect check of 14 or a Dexterity check of 16 can get you a bit of an advantage by knocking the Druid Wolf prone to start the fight.

The other option is to try and help the Druid Wolf by removing his curse, but this involves backing out of the cave. *NOTE* If you did not heal and save the Wolf at #17 on the Russetwood map earlier, then this choice will amount to condemning the Wounded Hunters to dying in the cave. *HOWEVER* If you did save the Wolf at #16 earlier, then it will defend the Wounded Hunters from the rest of the pack until you remove the curse, thereby freeing any players of heroic inclinations of any moral dilemmas.

  8. If you decide on the latter course, there is an abandoned camp at #21 on the Russetwood map. There will be a hidden chest on the right side of the camp that can only be discovered while in scouting mode. The chest itself will have the Hunter's Totem.

  9. You can then take the Totem to the Druid Wolf in the Wolf Cave. The Druid Wolf will be revealed as Thyrsc's son, Suldrun. Benevolent and Diplomatic responses convince him to return to his father in Stalwart Village. Passionate and Rational responses will convince him to never return to Stalwart Village. However the dialogue plays out, Suldrun will reward you with the Ancestor's Pendant.

  10. The quest concludes when you inform Thyrsc of the outcome. No matter how things turned out, you will gain a moderate reputation increase with Stalwart Village, and the Cloak of the Frozen Hunt.
