WYRM CAVE

You aren't fighting full-sized dragons yet, at least not until Baldur's Gate 2. But even the smaller ones can be plenty dangerous. You could of course pass it by entirely if you prefer to play it safe but that can also mean fewer rewards.

Wyrm Cave

  1. Here is your initial point of entry. Exiting it leads back to the Forest of Wyrms at 10.

  2. MorenthereneA medium-sized Green Dragon named Morentherene will be asleep here. It will waken and attack if you get too close to it, or cast a spell while in the Cave. You can avoid a fight by going east past it without getting too close.

It can cast Stoneskin and Haste on itself, and also has Magic Resistance. It's breath weapon scores acid damage, and can poison multiple characters too. A couple of Greater Wyverns will soon arrive to its aid.

A spell like Chaos or Feeblemind can render it helpless, if you can get past the Magic Resistance and saving throws. It only has a little more than 100 Hit Points, so single-target Wands like a Wand of the Heavens and a Wand of Frost can bring it down relatively quickly. It leaves behind Dragon Scales when killed.

  3. This dead body has the Sable Cloak on it.

  4. This niche will have several high-value gems in it.

  5. This exit leads to the Bugbear Cave at 1.
