This town is the perfect place to live. If you're a pirate, that is, because the town is run by pirates. Your job when you first arrive is to find a way into the Asylum, Spellhold. Crazy as that may seem, your objective is not crazy enough to earn you a free ticket to the funny farm.
This is where you arrive in Brynnlaw. Saemon Havarian or Simik advices you to seek out Sanik in the local tavern, The Vulgar Monkey.
If you sided with Bodhi in Chapter 3, Bodhi will "suggest" to Saemon that he give you a little tour of the town. Press him a bit, and he will show you the way to The Vulgar Monkey.
If you sided with the Shadow Thieves in Chapter 3, this is where Saemon Havarian will reveal his treachery, after which you are attacked by three Vampires. Careful; besides level drains they will also try to Dominate one or more party members. Chaotic Commands and Protection from Negative Energy on the party members who will be doing the fighting can prove useful.
After the fight, Simik will approach you again and urge you to seek out Sanik in The Vulgar Monkey.
If you sided with Bodhi in Chapter 3, this attack won't happen.
Here is the entrance to Lady Galvena's Festhall. You can't get in until after you have spoken to Sanik in The Vulgar Monkey, and then to the bartender after Sanik is killed.
To enter, speak to the one of the two Courtesans outside who is of the opposite sex of yourself.
Here is the entrance to Cayia's home. You will need to enter here after you're done with the Asylum if you choose to let Saemon Havarian help you escape Brynnlaw.
The first time you come by here, you are attacked by a Pirate. Not a very hard fight.
Inside Cayia's home, the closet at (x=400, y=180) is trapped. It contains a Scroll of Flesh to Stone.
The chest at (x=280, y=380) contains a Bloodstone Gem.
The table at (x=540, y=200) contains the Pirate Horn, a Rogue Stone, and 1 GP.
Here you will run into a boy named Ason who steals a bit of money from you. He is the younger brother of Ginia whom you can meet at 13.
If you return to Brynnlaw after the Asylum and you accept Saemon Havarian's offer to help you escape Brynnlaw, this is where you will run into a band of Pirates who try to shanghai your party as rowers on their ship. It's not hard to prove to them that this was a very bad idea... Besides mundane items they also drop a Scimitar +1, Leather Armor +1, and a Quarterstaff +1.
Here you will be attacked by a single Pirate.
If you accept Saemon Havarian's help to escape Brynnlaw, this is also where he will meet you after you have stolen the Pirate Horn from Cayia's House.
Here is the entrance to the Temple of Umberlee. Besides the usual Temple services, the Priestess of Umberlee sells a variety of potions and scrolls, besides a few other useful items. Click here for shop inventory.
Here is Ginia, Ason's sister. She is being forced to "work" for Chremy and begs you for money so she won't have to go empty-handed back to her "master". By all means promise to help Ginia and Ason escape Brynnlaw.
Here is the house of Perth the Adept. One of the ways to enter the Asylum is to kill him and take the Wardstone to the Asylum he carries.
Once you enter, it is quite clear that he has been Dominated and that this can only end in hostilities. Watch out, Perth puts up a good fight.
Inside the house, you can speak to Desharik to have him confine you to the Asylum. You'll need a high Charisma to do that, or you need to have Minsc or Yoshimo in your party.
Behind a trapped painting at (x=1190, y=400) you can find a Potion of Extra Healing, a Long Bow +2, a few Arrows +2, and some gold.
Here is the exit to the Outside area of the Asylum. You can enter here if you wish but you can't enter the Asylum building until you either have the Wardstone to the Asylum or you have convinced Desharik to confine you to the Asylum. Please see the Enter the Asylum quest.
If you sided with the Shadow Thieves in Chapter 3, Simik meets you here. If you have found the Wardstone to the Asylum, she goes to tell Aran Linvail of the situation.
