Return to Samarach Overland Map

Yuan-ti Temple

Now I get back across the other side of the Viper Temple. At #7 on the new Samarach Overland Map is the entrance to the Yuan-ti Temple.

Yuan-ti Temple

I start off at #1 on the Yuan-ti Temple map. At #2 are several Imps that I easily kill. At #3 are a few Erinyes that I also have little trouble killing off.

At #4 will be a Horned Devil, plus a few more Erinyes. Physical combat suffices to bring them down. A chest in the room has a Beljuril, a Diamond, a Star Sapphire, a Rogue Stone, and a Ring of Greater Fire Resistance, which I don't use.

Barrow

A party member with a high Search skill is needed to uncover the Barrow at #8.

There will be several Ogre-Magi ahead. I cut them down in short order in physical combat. One of the Ogre-Magi drops a Warmace +3 that I have no use for.

A trapped sarcophagus has a Greataxe +3 and a Hide Armor +3. I have no use for them either.

Ruined Shrine

The entrance to the Ruined Shrine is at #10 on the new Samarach Overland Map. At the back of the shrine is a hidden chest that can only be revealed by a character who both has a high Search skill and is in "Search" mode (i.e. the magnifying glass icon on the bottom right corner). The chest contains a Periapt of Wisdom +6 and a Wand of Restoration, plus possibly a random item or two.

Dread Wraiths

The entrance to Zecorian's Demesne is at #9 on the Overland Map. Note that being able to even enter the tower requires a Spellcraft skill rank of at least 35. Janette is able to make the skill check and gain entry.

Note that once inside the first level of the tower I will be attacked by several Dread Wraiths. The other problem is that there are several traps that are scattered throughout the floor and can be severely damaging, even for epic characters. My approach was to issue a 'stand your guard' command and let the Dread Wraiths close in on me. This allows Umoja to blast away with damaging spells that won't harm the party (e.g. Empowered Fire Storm, Empowered Call Lightning Storm), and Logan to hack away from a safe spot.

Once the battle is over, I have Finch switch from Inspire Defense to Inspire Competence. That makes it easier for Gallard to disarm all of the traps.

Immediately within view is a locked door, on the other side of which is the stairs up to the next level of the tower.

Hellfury Skeletons

I do some buffing up before I head up the stairs. Umoja casts Barkskin on everyone to protect against physical attacks. Both Janette and Umoja cast attribute buffers on Yushai. Umoja also adds Greater Magic Fang on Yushai. Janette casts Energy Immunity (Fire) on everyone in the party. Lastly, she activates her Shocking Burst power.

On the second floor will be several Hellfury Skeletons. Their weapons inflict extra fire damage. They also explode in a fiery blast once they die. That was the point behind immunizing everybody against fire damage. The party can simply charge in, including Janette once she also activates her Divine Might power. Finch assures easy victory by using his Hymn of Requiem and then his Curse Song before going into stealth mode.

Immediately within view is the door and stairs leading to the third and final level of the tower.

Zecorian

I do some more buffing before going up the next flight of stairs. Umoja casts Flame Weapon on Janette, Gallard, Logan and Yushai. Janette casts Spell Resistance on everyone in the party, and also throws in a Mass Death Ward for good measure. The next battle will be a very magic-intense one.

I go up the stairs and then through the next door. I soon get attacked by an Alhoon (i.e. undead Mindflayer) named Zecorian, and two Vampire Lords. Alhoon can cast very high-level mage spells. One of the Vampire Lords is a Cleric and is likely to lead off with a Storm of Vengeance spell. Hence the casting of Spell Resistance on everyone. I'm easily able to run up to them and cut them down.

The Vampire Lord Cleric leaves behind:

I don't have any use for any of them though. The other Vampire Lord leaves behind: I don't have any use for them either. Zecorian leaves behind: Gallard, being my main tank, equips the Ring of Protection +4 as it is an upgrade on his previous Ring of Protection +3.

My next and final destination is the Temple of the World Serpent.
