CASTLE NEVER
Castle Antechamber
A cutscene ensues whereby Sir Nevalle announces that Valeria will be honoured as a Knight of Neverwinter. I get two new items. One is the Ceremonial Sword of Neverwinter (Alchemical Silver Longsword +1, immunity to death magic, immunity to disease, light). The other is the Neverwinter Knight's Cloak (+3 deflection bonus to armor class, +1 Charisma, +2 Diplomacy, Freedom of Movement, +1 regeneration, +9 hit points, light). Valeria starts off equipped with both items. The latter will be her cloak for the rest of the game. It provides her source of deflection bonus to armor class. Bonus hit points, minor regeneration, and a skill bonus to Diplomacy are additional perks.
A pair of Shadow Priests, a pair of Elite Vampires, and several Wraiths interrupt the ceremony and attack the antechamber. Valeria starts off by switching out the Ceremonial Sword for her custom-made Rapier, and then casting Extended Haste on herself.
I want to get as much xp out of this as I can manage, so as much as possible I want to be the one to land the killing blows. I wait until each Shadow Priest is 'near death' before I strike the killing blow. This suffices to get me xp for each of them.
After that, the undead really start to stream in. That's when Valeria casts her Undeath to Death spell multiple times, which often kills two or even three undead automatically. At one point she also managed to land the killing blow on one of the Elite Vampires. The battle is soon won, and with a fair share of the available xp attained.
Valeria loots the items on the floor, which include:
Guard Room
Sir Nevalle beckons me to head to the Guard Room once the fight is over. It is at #2 on the map. Sir Nevalle then quests me with getting through to and saving Lord Nasher.
*Evil* Guard Room
Zarathos chooses the 'Lord Nasher can rot' reply in order to get a point towards Evil alignment, and earns a pointed reply from Sir Nevalle.
Defend Castle Never
I then leave the Guard Room while buffed up, head east a little, and head south towards #2. I then run into a Shadow Priest and two Wraiths. I get rid of the Wraiths with an Undeath to Death spell. The familiar tags the Priest with a Touch of Idiocy spell, after which he's easy prey. *Evil* Zarathos does just as well with Chain Lightnings.
I continue south to #4, buffed again after resting, where there are two Vampire Champions. One of the Vampire Champions is a Warlock, while the other can use Barbarian Rage. Undeath to Death kills off the Warlock. After that, I buff up and take down the Champion in melee combat. If you don't have the spell, keep in mind that the Champions would otherwise be pretty tough. A weapon with bonus damage against evil or undead, or an Alchemical Silver weapon to get past their damage reduction, would certainly make things easier.
*Evil* This fight is even easier for Zarathos, who simply casts a Blade Barrier spell on himself, and can pretty much watch the Vampire Champions kill themselves just by being in proximity to him.
East at #5 will be three Shadow Priests. Valeria goes after the nearest Priest immediately with physical attacks. I have the Familiar zap the other two with Touch of Idiocy spells. It's a pretty easy fight after that. Keep in mind that the Priests can use instant death spells, so you may need either a good Fortitude saving throw bonus or an item that confers immunity to death magic (like the Ceremonial Sword).
*Evil* Zarathos cast a Death Ward spell on himself beforehand. He then hits all three Shadow Priests with a Word of Faith spell, which effectively blinds them and renders them helpless sitting ducks.
The tapestry at #6 reveals the entrance to Neverneath.
