CROSSROAD KEEP SEIGE
Second War Conference
I soon get alerted that Black Garius' army, along with siege towers, is marching onwards to Crossroad Keep. I have my choice of two companions. My first choice is Casavir, since he's particularly well suited to bring down the undead up close, and because his saving throws will allow him to resist enemy magic (e.g. from Vampire Mages). My second choice is Qara, since her spells of mass destruction are particularly well suited for the situation at hand. I select dialogue choices to increase influence with Casavir (i.e. Valeria values him) and Qara (i.e. let loose without any restraint).
*Evil* Zarathos instead chooses dialogues that will lose influence with Casavir (i.e. just a meat shield to absorb the undead attacks) and Qara (i.e. restrain yourself).
Defending the Keep Walls
To begin with, I make sure I'm buffed up. That includes Bless Weapon spells for both Casavir's Hammer of Ironfist, and Valeria's Pharoah's Mace, to ensure they inflict extra damage against the undead.
The mission is simple, destroy all six of the War Towers. There are two incentives to destroy them as quickly as possible. One is that the longer you let a War Tower board the top of the walls, the more undead that will come out of the Tower. Second, there's a hefty 4,000xp bonus for defending the Keep with a minimum of casualties amongst my own troops and allies.
This is really Qara's time to shine. The method is to have Qara specifically target the War Tower once it boards with an Empowered Chain Lightning spell that will not only inflict a lot of damage on the Tower itself, but will also inflict hefty damage on any nearby undead. If it's just the Tower itself without any undead nearby, a Meteor Swarm that is specifically targeted at the Tower as a creature pretty much ensures its instant destruction. Casavir is meanwhile knocking off any undead that don't get killed off by Qara outright. Valeria sometimes helps out Qara with offensive spells of her own, or will obliterate nearby undead with her Pharoah's Mace. I soon manage to get rid of all the War Towers in short order.
Bishop's Betrayal
Now I have to defend the courtyard against invasion. Only, Bishop destroys the mechanism that can lower the gate and joins the undead army.
*Evil* Bishop's Betrayal
The parallel video for the evil playthrough. Bishop speaks in a rather different tone to reflect Zarathos having earned a lot of influence with him.
Defending the Courtyard
I choose Casavir and Qara again. There will be a LOT of undead streaming in through the gates, and in several waves. The strategy is simple but effective. Valeria and Casavir go on the attack. If enough undead make it through and begin to swarm me, Qara can use something like an Empowered Fire Burst or an Empowered Chain Lightning. If enough Vampires appear, Vampire Mages in particular, she can insta-kill them with a Sunburst spell. Holding out against them doesn't become a problem at all. And crucially, I avoid any casualties to my Ironfist or Lizardfolk units.
Nightwalker Avatar
Black Garius arrives and summons a Nightwalker. The strategy is simple. Casavir and Valeria jump straight into the attack. Ammon Jerro pelts it over and over again with Vitriolic Acid. Qara pumps it with Empowered Flame Arrows. Zhjaeve targets it with Heal spells, since healing spells will actually damage undead with positive energy. It dies rather quickly.
True Name of Black Garius
At this point, either Ammon Jerro or Zhjaeve can use the True Name scroll to force Black Garius to flee and ensure victory. I also get a 4,000xp bonus for successfully defending the Keep with only minimal casualties.
My next destination is the Vale of Merdelain.
