PROLOGUE: HIGH HARVEST FAIR
An Elven Maiden from West Harbor
Here's the introductory cinematic, plus the initial creation of Valeria.
An Evil Cleric from West Harbor
And the one for Zarathos.
Daeghun's Furs
Daeghun assigns Valeria the task of retrieving his furs from the nearby chest, and then selling them to a merchant named Galen.
*Note* There is one other matter that I want to take care of pretty much the moment the game starts. The Merchant's Friend feat was added to the protagonist for anyone who purchased the Collector's Edition of NWN2. There are two benefits for the feat. One, the protagonist gets a 10% discount on the purchase of wares from any merchant. Second, it provides access to a set of special wares available through a merchant named Dayne Lenneth. It is obviously in my best interests to gain the benefits of the feat from the word go. Especially since merchants are going to become available almost right away.
I give the feat to Valeria by pressing the "`" key to open the Debug Console, and then entering the following into the console:
High Harvest Fair
Valeria leaves the house, and is now at #1 on the West Harbor Map. She heads for the bridge at #2, and then joins up with Amie and Bevil. She then goes further south to #3, and speaks with Georg for some background information.
*Evil* High Harvest Fair
And here's the parallel example for Zarathos where he deliberately chooses offensive dialogue options, and the reponses to him reflect his Bully background.
The Tourney of Talent
I ignore the Harvest Brawl for now, because I want to advance a level first before I do that challenge. I instead head over to #10 on the map. Retta Starling urges Amie to compete in the Tourney of Talent. It's a simple matter of Amie casting her Summon Wolf spell, casting Enlarge Person on herself, and then hitting the nearby barrel with either a Ray of Frost or an Acid Splash cantrip.
I get 400xp, as well as scrolls of Lesser Dispel Magic, Ghostly Visage, and Summon Creature II. I'll use the Lesser Dispel Magic scroll for the next quest. Valeria will inscribe the Ghostly Visage spell once she can cast 2nd-level spells, since it can be a reliable defensive spell during the early parts of the game. I'll just sell the Summon Creature II scroll.
A Man and his Hog
Immediately thereafter, Orlen has a request for Amie. The request is to prove that Lewy Jon is cheating by entering a magically enlarged pig into competition. It's a simple matter of using the Lesser Dispel Magic scroll on the pig. Orlen rewards me with some Pork Jerky. I also get 150xp.
The Fur Trade
I now speak to Galen at #9. I sell Daeghun's Furs and then buy the Duskwood Bow.
I then bring the Bow to Daeghun, who can be found at #12. I get 400xp, plus whatever gold was left over after the sale, which is actually more for having the Merchant's Friend feat.
The Archery Competition
I equip a Light Crossbow and some Bolts after getting them from the Barrel near Daeghun. I then hit one of the Practice Targets with a Bolt. I speak with Daeghun again. The goal is to hit at least six of the nearby Bottles to win the Archery competition. I make a point of hitting a perfect ten. My reward is 150xp.
2nd Level
Here is where Valeria and her two companions advance to their second level of experience. Valeria takes her first level as a Necromancer, makes her initial selection of spells, and also summons her Beetle familiar.
Note that I also have Bevil take Power Attack, with a view towards obtaining the Cleave feat. The ability to make multiple attacks against lower-level enemies with fewer hit points is valuable during the early parts of the game.
The Knaves Challenge
I now speak with Tarmas the Wizard, who is at #13 on the map, in order to take up the Knaves' Challenge. The goal of the challenge is to find three feathers. Valeria doesn't have any ranks in the Sleight of Hand skill, so Tarmas warns her that she may need help. For anybody whose main character lacks thieving skills, a nearby boy named Kipp can be enlisted into the party to take care of things.
The Blue Feather can be found in a pile of logs just a little east of Galen. A trap on the pile must be disarmed first.
A chest just a little east of Lewy Jon must be opened with the Open Lock skill. The white feather will be inside.
Finally, I have Kipp pickpocket the Man in Green to get the Green Feather. I then report to Tarmas to claim victory in the Knaves' Challenge. My reward is 400xp.
The Harvest Brawl
I now speak to Brother Merring at #6 on the map, in order to enter the Harvest Brawl. I put this off until I had advanced a level, so that I would have more hit points for the fight.
I grab some Practice Clubs out of the nearby barrel, and have everyone equip them. I then bash one of the Practice Dummies out of existence.
I then have to fight two club battles. The first one is easy enough. The second one is against the Mossfeld brothers. I don't mind losing a little approval with Bevil in order to score some gold. He won't be a permanent companion anyway. Whether it's the first battle or the Brothers, the operative principles are the same. Gang up on one character at a time in order to reduce the number of attackers as quickly as possible. Flank your target whenever possible. It increases your chances of successfully landing blows, and it allows Rogue-type characters to inflict sneak attacks.
The video concludes with me collecting the side bet from Wyl Mossfeld.
3rd Level
I speak to Georg again, whereupon I advance another level.
Valeria now picks up her first Swashbuckler level, along with the Weapon Finesse feat.
Note how I made sure that Bevil acquired the Power Attack and Cleave feats during his level ups. The point is those extra attacks can really come in handy during the wave of fights that mark the beginning of Act I.
Harvest Cup
Celebrations take place at #14. Georg proclaims Valeria the winner of the Harvest Cup (Cure Light Wounds (2) 2/day). She also gets the Harvest Cloak (+1 Charisma) for winning all four competitions.
Act I now begins with an attack on West Harbor.
