NOLALOTH'S VALLEY

Nolaloth's Valley

Find the Crystal Dragon Spirit

I start off at #1 on the map, and make my way through the long winding trail. I end of having to fight an Elder Earth Elemental at the end of the trail. It can inflict significant damage when it happens to connect, but a well-equipped party should still be able to take it down in straight physical combat.

At #2 will be a pool with a large crystal heart suspended over it. A couple of Greater Water Elementals will attack. Again, a decently equipped and prepared party should be able to take them down in melee. A cutscene ensues whereby a pair of Black Dragons are apparently watching me from high up.

North of the pool will be another ore deposit, and another Elder Earth Elemental that I have to kill.

Spirit of Nolaloth

I proceed to #4, and then speak with the spirit of Nolaloth, thoroughly exploring as many dialogue options as possible. There are two outcomes. One, he reveals that I must bring the Silver Shards back to West Harbor. Two, he requests that I end his existence by shattering his Crystal Heart.

*Evil* Spirit of Nolaloth

The equivalent video for the evil playthrough. Zarathos chooses more insensitive dialogue options, and Nolaloth responds accordingly.

Preparing for the Black Dragons

I prepare for the max for the coming battle. That includes Energy Immunity (Acid) for everyone in the party, including the Beetle Familiar and the Badger Animal Companions, in order to immunize everyone against the acid breath weapon of the Black Dragons.

Black Dragons

I head back to #2. My next objective is to destroy the Crystal Heart at Nolaloth's request. The catch is that once I try, I will get attacked by two Black Dragons.

Once combat starts, the party members do the following:

The party soon manages to wear down the Black Dragons one at a time.

*Note* Keep in mind that I often like to put off putting up some of my intended buffs until combat begins. The reason being that in my experience a dialogue before a fight can significantly whittle away the amount of time that a buff lasts, especially buffs that last for a number of rounds instead of for a number of minutes or hours (like some other buffs).

They leave behind:

Shattering the Crystal Heart

I have Casavir bash the Crystal Heart until it explodes, whereupon Nolaloth gladly embraces the end. I get 2,000xp, plus a Crystal Heart Shard that can be distilled into a Radiant Power Essence, a Radiant Air Essence, and a Radiant Water Essence.

Bracers of Armor +8

First, I purchase a lot of Bolts of Fire from the Guard Tower for Neeshka. I also enter Crossroad Keep and purchase the Crossbow of Murder (+5 attack bonus, +2d6 massive critical damage) from Uncus for Neeshka. There may be some battles (e.g. the King of Shadows in particular) where squishy Neeshka may want to keep her distance and have a missile weapon option instead. This is arguably the best crossbow in the game in terms of raw damage.

Now I enter the Basement of Crossroad Keep. I place the King's Tear, 2 Iron Ingots, and the last Radiant Earth Essence I have left from my Bag of Holding into the Magician's Workbench. Casting a Mage's Armor spell on the Workbench results in Bracers of Armor +8, which Neeshka wears for the rest of the game.

It is time to return to West Harbor.
