Gathering the Party

A Hellfire Warlock

Here's the video for the initial character creation of Salazar.

*Evil* An Elven Assassin

And likewise the video for the initial character creation of Selene.

Arrival in Westgate

And here are the opening credits and vignette whereby Salazar arrives in Westgate aboard a ship called the Sea Serpent.

Sea Serpent

The first part of the video consists of me levelling up to level 8.

Nearby is a Traveler's Trunk. What the Trunk contains is somewhat random and depends on the first class that you take with your protagonist. A Fighter or Paladin might get a Longsword +1, Boots of Striding +1, and a heavy armor. A Rogue might get Shortswords +1 or Daggers +1, a Leather Armor +1, and a Ring of Protection +1. A Monk might get Kamas +1, an Amulet of Natural Armor, and Boots of Reflexes +1. As an arcane character, I got a Club +1 (sometimes it's a Dagger +1), and a Robe of Fire Resistance.

Also in the main character's inventory will be the Domino Mask. The Domino Mask itself carries certain benefits. Those benefits start off as +10 hit points, partial concealment (10% I believe), and the ability to use Ghostly Visage twice a day. However, each time I put it on, I must make a Will save at DC=15 to avoid my alignment shifting 2 points towards evil. Furthermore, if I wear it too long, a Wraith will show up and chip away at Salazar by inflicting 1 point of magic damage with a certain frequency. The only way to make it stop is too take off the mask.

Also, Salazar cannot rest while he has the mask on. And if he wants to wear it, he has to make that Will saving throw every single time. So in summary, wearing the Domino Mask promises certain benefits, but also certain hindrances and inconveniences such that you have to choose your times when you'll wear it.

I make for the door to the Docks.

*Evil* Sea Serpent

The equivalent video for Selene. She gets a Leather Armor +1, a Ring of Protection +1, and a couple of Shortswords +1 for equipment.

Rinara Joins

I step out the door and appear at #1 on the Harbor Loop Map.

Harbor Loop

Rinara now joins me as a party member. There's no particular consequences attached to any of the dialogue choices.

Fulgrim Bonebreaker

Ahead at #2 is a Duergar named Fulgrim. It doesn't matter which dialogue choices I select, it always goes down the same way with Rinara cutting him down before he can run away.

I speak with Rinara again. I select the "Nice work" option in order to increase my influence with her. Indicating that I didn't know about her career would have worked as well. Asking her directly about the Night Masks would have resulted in an influence loss instead.

This little event also sets the stage for Rinara's personal quest, although that doesn't come up until later on.

Mantides Joins

The entrance to the Black Eye Tavern is at #3 on the Harbor Loop map. Once inside, Mantides can be seen about to get into a brawl with a few drunken patrons.

I could encourage him to beat the men senseless, but that would cost me influence with him. I instead prefer to talk him out of it, and gain influence with him. Either way, he joins my party.

*Evil* Mantides Joins

Selene on the other hand loses influence with Mantides every chance she gets. The goal is have Mantides become a Champion of Shar.

Charissa Joins

I begin by making for the exit to the east gate of the Market Triangle, which is west at #4 on the Harbor Loop map.

Market Triangle

I arrive at the east gate of the Market Triangle, at #1 on the Market Triangle Map. A beggar named Slicker tries to hit me up for a little gold, but a magical explosion ensues which obliges Slicker to run off.

I continue on to the west gate of the Triangle, which is at #2 on the map.

Arena District

I next find myself at #1 on the Arena District map.

I notice a couple of people dancing strangely and kneeling before a street post. This event clues the party in as to the entrance to the Undergate, at #2 on the map.

I continue ahead to the Morning Haven, which is at #3 on the map. Inside is the final joinable companion, a battle priestess of Tyr named Charissa. There is an opportunity to gain influence with her, but it can occur at different potential points in the conversation. If I ask "what buffoon?", I then have a choice between agreeing with her disapproval of organized religion and gaining influence, or suggesting a little pragmatism is needed but then losing influence. A different dialogue involves asking what has made her so angry. I will then have the choice between saying that I am willing to make a stand to gain influence with her, or indicating that my willingness to take a stand depends on the situation and losing influence. I chose the 'buffoon' dialogue tree and raised my influence with her by +1. She is now in the party.

*Evil* Charissa Joins

I abridged the video in the evil playthrough so that it only shows when Selene enters the Temple and recruits Charissa into her party. Selene chooses the 'pragmatism' dialogue option, so as to lose influence with Charissa. I will ultimately kill both Charissa and Rinara anyway, so why not?

An Argument over Faith

I exit and leave. Once I get far enough from the doors of the Morning Haven, Charissa and Mantides get into an argument over the latter's loss of faith in Lathander.

I can either:

I chose the second option. The reason being that I want to make sure I have enough positive influence with Mantides such that he changes class from Fighter to Paladin.

*Evil* The conversation playsout exactly the same for the evil playthrough. The only difference is that Selene chooses the "I agree with everything she says" dialogue option, which gains +1 influence with Charissa but loses -1 influence with Mantides even though verbally his reply is the same ("This discussion is at an end."). Again, my goal is to lose influence with Mantides whenever I can during the evil playthrough.

Now it's time to do a few quests in the Arena District.
