I arrive at #12 on the south side of the map. A little ahead at #1 is the merchant Galen, who is getting attacked by his own Guards. I decide to help him out. As always, I won't save unless I land the killing blow on both of them. I will get an xp reward for this later on.
Perhaps Zarathos would otherwise have no problems killing the lot of them for whatever loot their corpses will leave behind. If I were to do so, Galen would leave behind 1,600gp as well as Namarra Neversleep +1 (+1 rapier, 75% daze for 1 round DC=14).
However, Zarathos also prefers to come to Galen's rescue, but for more selfish reasons. He insists on extracting the maximum gold reward possible from Galen following the battle.
Wolves
There will be quite a few Wolves around #2, including a very large Dire Wolf. I edge forward slowly against the foremost ones, so that I only have to fight a few at a time instead of all of them at once. Once a few Wolves notice me, I let Khelgar put himself out first so as to absorb the initial onslaught. This allows Valeria to pick her spots for sneak attack opportunities. I repeat the process until they're wiped out.
There will also be a few more Wolves to kill at around #3.
5th Level
And here is where I advance Valeria and Khelgar to their 5th level. One highlight is that Khelgar begins to add skill points to Craft Armor, so that he can craft a special armor and a special shield for Valeria. The other highlight is that Valeria obtains her second level in Rogue, and thus also the Evasion ability.
To Neeshka's Rescue
I go ahead to #4, where I intervene when Neeshka is getting harassed by corrupt Soldiers of Neverwinter. As always, I make sure to land the killing blow instead of Neeshka. One of the Soldiers leaves behind a Kukri +1, which Valeria equips for now. A nearby chest has some loot, including a Leather Armor and a Dagger +1. I equip Neeshka with this Dagger +1, plus the other one that I found earlier in the Swamp Ruins. She also dons the Leather Armor.
*Evil* To Neeshka's Rescue
The equivalent battle for Zarathos, but where he's decidedly more apathetic or even callous towards Neeshka in his dialogue choices.
Shopping in Fort Locke
Now I go on ahead to Fort Locke. First, I check out the enclosed area just a little east of #11. I pick up some items from the crates, including the following:
Quicksilver - I may need this as a quest item later on.
Smith's Hammer - Khelgar keeps this for forging armors and weapons.
Three Iron Ingots - I'll use these in crafting custom items later on.
Mortar & Pestle - For the use of Alchemy.
Duskwood Plank - I'll use Duskwood Planks for crafting Duskwood Bows, one for Bishop and the rest to sell off for profit.
Three Leather Hides - I'll also keep these for crafting custom items later on.
The crates also have several other items, like an Amethyst gemstone and Belladona. I'll sell them off. The crates also have several crafting molds. I sell all of them except the Longbow Mold and the Chain Shirt Mold, which are the only ones that I'll have any use for.
Next I speak with Galen at #6. He sells quite an assortment of various wares. I don't show it in the video, but I sell off any excess loot that I don't need. I purchase the following:
Greater Gloves of Spellcraft (+6 Spellcraft) - For any item that isn't a body armor, a shield, or a helmet, Elanee will always get the bottom of the barrel. The Gloves themselves aren't really all that meaningful, but why not fill that slot for Elanee down the road?
Gloves of Swordplay (+3 Parry) - I'll have Shandra equip these once she gets the chance, as it becomes part of her defensive style of Fighter build.
Once that is finished, I have Neeshka use her Sleight of Hand skill to clean him out for a fair amount of gold and a Strong Tangle Trap. Remember, there's literally no in game consequence for using Sleight of Hand on a merchant, no matter how many times your Rogue may fail her attempts or how many times you get caught. Neeshka holds onto any items she steals for the time being. Stolen items are flagged as fenced goods by the game, so I won't be able to sell them off until I find a merchant who is willing to buy said fenced goods. In fact, the merchant who offers the best prices for fenced goods won't become available until Act II.
I next speak to Jacoby at #7. He sells a lot of mundane or +1 weapons, and a lot of crafting items that can be used in the making of custom made items. I purchase the following:
About 17 Leather Pelts - My long term crafting plans will require 20 Leather Hides. I already obtained three of them from the nearby crates.
Light Shield Mold - I have a Zalantar Light Shield in mind for Valeria. Aside from the shield I'll make for Valeria, I also intend to craft 10 more Light Shields made from special materials to turn a profit. So I ultimately plan to purchase at least 9 Light Shield molds, starting with the first available one from Jacoby.
Heavy Shield Mold - The long term plan is to acquire 33 Heavy Shield Molds, with the intention of crafting Mithral Heavy Shields for profit. I make a start by purchasing one from Jacoby.
Tower Shield Mold - The long term plan is to acquire 20 Tower Shield Molds, with the intention of crafting Mithral Tower Shields for profit. I make a start by purchasing one from Jacoby.
Full Plate Mold - The long term plan is to acquire 33 Full Plate Molds, with the intention of crafting Adamantine Full Plate armors for profit. I make a start by purchasing one from Jacoby.
Half-Plate Mold - The long term plan is to acquire 15 Half-Plate Molds, with the intention of crafting Adamantine Half-Plate armors for profit. I make a start by purchasing one from Jacoby.
Chainshirt Mold - I have a Mithral Chainshirt in mind for Valeria.
Longbow Mold - My long term plan is to acquire 32 Longbow Molds, one for Bishop's bow, and the others to craft Duskwood Bows for profit. I start with the first one purchased from Jacoby.
Rapier Mold - The plan is to craft an Alchemical Silver Rapier for Valeria.
Adamantine Ingot - I purchase these whenever possible. They will go into crafting Adamantine armors for profit.
Mithral Ingot - I purchase these whenever possible. Two of them will go into crafting a Mithral Chain Shirt for Valeria. The others will go into crafting Mithral shields for profit.
Once all that is finished, I clean out Jacoby for some gold. I also clean out a Priest of Ilmater named Tor Millows for some gold and a Potion of Speed, but don't speak to him just yet.
I make for the exit to the world map, where the same Elf woman is still stalking me. My next destination is the Maiden's Glade.
