EYEGOUGER APPROACH

The Katalmach

I get a set encounter once I attempt to go back to either Old Owl Well or the Bonegnasher Clan. Some Orcs who have waylaid a wagon are immediately within view. Qara blows most of them away with a Fireball. This leads to another encounter with many Orc Warriors and several human mercenaries battling each other. And again Qara blows most of them away with a Firebrand. This is where Casavir joins my party.

Now I take the time to equip Casavir with the equipment that I've been saving for him:

Now I the opportunity to change my party configuration. Casavir is mandatory for the Eyegouger parts of the game, but he is in any event now going to be my main tank. I switch out Khelgar for him. I also switch out Neeshka for Elanee, since there are now opportunities to increase influence with the latter. Qara stays since her spells are still useful against mass hordes.

*Evil* The Katalmach

The equivalent for the evil party. Zarathos is deliberately more hostile to Casavir, but the result is the same. Neeshka positively "itches" in Casavir's presence.

Eyegouger Approach

Hideo Kama

I start off at #1 on the Eyegouger Approach. I start off by showing the buffs set up that I will use: Barkskin for everyone, Extended Flame Weapons for everyone, Stoneskin for everyone, Greater Magic Weapon and Keen Weapon for Valeria, and Weapon of Impact on Casavir since he's my heavy hitter packing a Warhammer, and Flame Weapon for both Elanee and Valeria.

A little distance to the left will be a trio of Blade Spiders. They're neutral in alignment, so they won't be affected by holy damage vs. evil. Valeria casts Mirror Image on herself, while Casavir activates his Divine Shield power. The duo is then able to hold up two of the Spiders on their own without much worry.

Further west will be another group of Orcs. Once the position settles, Qara blasts them with a Firebrand spell. There will be a chest at #2. It will have a Hideo Kama (+2 Parry), as well as some random loot. I could have gotten either an Emerald or a Diamond out of it, but I have more than enough Diamonds and Emeralds for my needs now as it is. I was content with a wand and other treasure that should sell for at least 1,000gp.

Orc Barricades

I now go south. There will be two trios of Blades Spiders to fight. I lure them northwards so that I don't have to face missile fire from a nearby Orc barricade at the same time. One of the Spiders in the second group will leave behind a Blade Spider Leg.

At #3 will be a barricade that blocks the way to a few Orcs using crossbows. I have Casavir cut down the barricades in order to reach the Orcs, while Qara lets loose with a Fireball spell or two.

At #4 will be another Orc barricade, and Qara takes care of most of them with fire spells. Only the Orc Shaman is left, who keeps picking himself back up with healing spells. Qara eventually wears him down with Flame Arrow spells. The Orc Shaman leaves behind five Hellhound Tooths that can be distilled into Glowing Fire Essences, and five Wraith Residues that can each be distilled into a Weak Air Essence and a Weak Power Essence. The Orcs leave behind crossbows of various sorts, one of them being a +1 crossbow.

Outrider's Flight

I continue on to #5, which is the entrance to first level of the Eyegouger Lair. It is guarded by several Orcs using crossbows, as well as an enormous Blade Spider. Safely aiming an area-effect offensive spell like Fireball can be difficult because the spider has such a huge sprite and thus is likely to be the selected target no matter where you try to place your mouse pointer. It is simple enough for Qara to peck it down with multiple instances of Magic Missiles. The Orcs fall easily afterwards. One of them leaves behind a crossbow called Outrider's Flight (Light Crossbow +2, +1 Dexterity).
