After completing the Harrowing, you wake up at the rousing of a fellow Apprentice, Jowan. Jowan evidently has a chip on his shoulder over the fact that he hasn't been allowed to proceed to his Harrowing. He also indicates that Apprentices are faced with a crucial choice. One is to face the Harrowing and risk death. The other is to undergo the Rite of Tranquility, with the result that the subject is cut off from the Fade and can no longer either use magic or feel any emotions. How you speak to Jowan now and for the rest of the Origins story is up to you, and it may have repercussions since you will meet him significantly later on. In any event, Jowan informs you that First Enchanter Irving wants to speak to you.
