Here you’ll find Volo. He is still eager for geographical information, so any interesting locations that you find on the Sword Coast Map you can report back to him for xp.
His next task for you will be to find bandits, bribe them into leaving you alone enough times, so that you can speak to their leadership about their motivations for their lives of crime. While you’re in the Sword Coast, if you find a Bandit group, left click on them. Now select the Parley option, and then bribe them with gold along with the hint that you want to speak to their leader. Do this about 4 or so times and a Bandit Gang with EL 11 will appear on the overland map. Now click on them to speak to them. Pursuing a conversation with them reveals their ties to a group known as the Snaketongues based in Neverwinter. Bring this information back to Volo for 2,000xp and a Ring of Major Acid Resistance.
Incidentally, in any of the towns of the Sword Coast, you’ll find a Bard named Finch. He has been accused of adultery by a noble in Neverwinter, and therefore cannot perform in the city. To help him, you’ll need to find Sir Nevalle in the Black Lake District. Once you’ve helped Finch out, speak to him again for 1200xp. You’ll then be able to find him here, and he is willing to join your party as a Bard.
Around here and the adjoining rooms are the crafting stations where you can make use of your recipes.
Here is a room with beds where you can rest for free.
Here is Variel, who runs the day to day merchant operations around here. She has a number of ways to improve trade for Sa’Sani’s company, but she requires trade bars from you to finance them. They include setting up a shrine for the Cleric of Waukeen who is currently staying in the Phoenix Tail Inn, hiring people to advertise the company around the Sword Coast, upgrading the magical portal so that it can teleport people to locations other than the lumber camp, and upgrading the armor and weapons of the patrols. Each upgrade requires 500 trade bars, and additional costs as follows:
Building a Shrine for the Cleric of Waukeen - 5 timber and 5 mithral. Mithral can be obtained from Highcliff.
Hiring people to spread the good word about your company - 5 timber, 5 skins, and 5 ores.
Upgrading the armor of the Greycloaks - 5 mithral and 5 adamantine. Adamantine can be obtained from Leilon.
Upgrading the portal - 5 adamantine and 5 darksteel. Darksteel can be obtained from Conyberry.
Here are Sa’Sani and Nas’Sirin. Sa’Sani has some tasks for you. One is to establish trade with the towns of the Sword Coast.
Once some progress has been made in establishing a trade network, another task is to destroy a group of Ogres and Trolls, led by Tuka Akut, who are plaguing caravans to the east. They are located in the Crystal Cave. Once you’ve finished them off, bring the good news to Variel for 1900xp.
Another is to find information on missing associates of hers. This requires heading to the city of Neverwinter and making contact with one of three merchant groups, the Circle of Friends, the Forgotten Lords, or the Fated Winds. They are located in the Temple of Waukeen in the Black Lake District of Neverwinter. They won’t have much in the way of information, but it will be enough to move things along for Sa’Sani.
To bring matters to a head, and towards the climax, you need to complete all the tasks for your sponsoring merchant cartel leading to an ill-fated meeting in the town of Conyberry, which is located at #20 of the Sword Coast. Once that business is concluded, Sa'Sani will now tell you that the missing associates, Kizu Il’foss, have contacted her. You are to meet them at the Red Sheaf Inn, which is located at #39 of the Sword Coast Map. Once there, you’ll learn a few things. One, Kizu and Il’foss are Yuan-ti agents for a rising serpent deity, Zehir. Second, Sa’Sani is also a Yuan-ti, but now rivals with Kizu and Il’foss. Third, combat is inevitable. They will have quite a few other Yuan-ti helping them, so be prepared. They’ll leave behind Kizu’s Short Sword and the Emerald Staff.
When you return, you’ll learn that Sa’Sani has murdered Nas’Sirin and fled through the portal. Naturally, you are tasked with following her.
Here is the portal. You can use it to travel to another town or city for free. You can also use it to travel to the Lantanese Lumber Camp in case you still have anything to take care of in the Samarach part of the game.
