A successful Spellcraft check reveals that illusion magic is present. If you explore around the mine, none of the workers or foremen will be inclined to talk to you. The key to uncovering the roost is to offer to buy some cold iron, which in turn prompts some insincere counter offers. Persist, and Daniel and Chester will tire of the Charade. They are revealed to be Ogre Magi while the rest of the crew are revealed to be Goblinoids of various sort. The Ogre Magi between them will leave behind Gromcheck’s Walking Stick, and a Falchion +1.
A nearby lever opens the door to this cave. Inside are a couple of chests with random loot.
