Warden's Keep - Second Floor

Second Floor

  1. Here is the stairs back down to the First Floor.

  2. Avernus Summoning
  3. Once you come here, you'll witness another ghostly vision of a mage of the Grey Wardens, named Avernus, engaging in a misguided effort at summoning demons in order to tip the scales of the battle against the forces of King Arland. Unfortunately, the demons end up indiscriminate in their slaughter. Of course, this means its your turn. You now have to fight a Rage Demon inhabiting a human body along with several Warden Skeletons. If you can, plant a storm spell over the Warden Skeletons and concentrate all of your efforts on the Rage Demon. Once you cut him down to size, he'll get a second life and be restored to full health. Two more Greater Rage Demons will then join in. The primary Rage Demon can take a lot of damage, so take out the two new Rage Demons first. Also keep in mind that the skeletons can continously revive the boss Rage Demon, so you may have to take them out as well. If the demons plant a fire storm effect over where you're fighting, make use of the generous space available and have everyone move elsewhere so as to force the demons to come to you. The boss Rage Demon leaves behind Winter's Breath (Dragonbone).

  4. Here is a shrine with a few skeletons for you to fight. It also has Raspberry Jam, which provides a Codex entry on more of the Keep's history.

  5. Sophia Dryden
  6. Here is the Commander's Quarters. You'll find what is apparently a spirit in possession of the body of Levi Dryden's ancestor, Sophia Dryden. Whatever is possessing Sophia Dryden wants to propose a deal. The deal basically involves clearing out anything that is left in the Keep and letting 'her' go free. If your Coercion skill is good enough, you can convince her to go straight ahead with sealing off the breach in the Veil that allows demons to pass through with the understanding that you'll kill whatever is left in the keep afterwards. This of course means proceeding towards the final battle.

Ash WraithIn any event, if you do agree to help her, this means killing off the mage that you saw in the ghostly vision, Avernus. Avernus will be in a nearby tower. Once Avernus is dead, 'Sophia' will proceed to keep her word. She'll start to seal off the breach in the Veil that allows demons to pass through. Three waves of enemies will assault, first three Lesser Rage Demons, then three Greater Shades, and then a pair of Ash Wraiths and a pair of Lesser Rage Demons, and then a boss Desire Demon. Once that is done, you can speak with 'Sophia'. If your Coercion skill is good enough, you can Intimidate her into answering Levi Dryden's questions. Whether you keep your end of the bargain or kill her is up to you. If you do kill her, she'll leave behind the Warden Commander Armor, Warden Commander Gloves, and Warden Commander Boots. There's a small chance she may also leave behind the Warden Tower Shield.

On the other hand, if you killed Sophia beforehand and sided with Avernus instead, it is Avernus who helps you seal the Veil here. Once the battle is finished, you'll have the same choice, kill him or let him go. If you decide to kill him, he'll leave behind the Robes of Avernus.

  7. Here is the door to the bridge, which is basically the door at #5 of Soldier's Peak, allowing you to reach Avernus' Tower.

  8. Here is a portrait of Asturian, a former Grey Warden Commander. You can only click on this portrait if you managed to find all the clues/notes/books etc. relating the history of the Keep. When you do click on it, select the option that involves reciting the Grey Warden Oath. A chest then appears that holds Asturian's Might, the Shadow Belt, some gold, and possibly a random item or two.
