Light Hurts Me and Bleeds Me
I do a sweep of the northern part of the level, starting with fights against random monsters in a sequence of 13N 10E, 13N 7E, 14N 5E, 14N 0E, 11N 1E, 8N 4E, 8N 9E, 11N 6E and 11N 5E.
I make my way back to near the stairs in the northeast corner, but now fight random monsters at 11N 11E. I next step one square south and put up a Cat Eyes spell after getting past the dark squares.
Now I win fights against random monsters at 10N 8E, 11N 13E and 9N 13E. A clue at 10N 14E reads: "Light hurts me and bleeds me, but leave me behind it always."
I cross the silent square at 9N 10E, and put my Sanctuary Score back up afterwards. I also win another fight against random monsters at 7N 12E.
Eschew the First Right Thing to Do
I win a fight against random monsters at 7N 14E. The south part of the level has quite a few invisible one-way walls. That is to say, there's plenty of places where you'll bump into an invisible wall and can't get through, even though you can see what's on the other side. Sometimes you can pass through an invisible wall, but you can't go back the way you came.
There is a Spell-Point draining square at 4N 10E, but I can go south from it. I can't go back though without magic. I win fights against random monsters at 3N 13E and 0N 13E.
I go across the silent square at 3N 10E, and use Trap Zap on the trap at 3N 8E. Now I sit on the Spell Point-replenishing square at 3N 7E with Rhyme of Duotime playing until Talia and Mordred are fully recharged.
I next win fights against random monsters at 1N 9E and 0N 10E. I get another clue after the latter fight: "Down below, eschew the first right thing to do."
Stairs to Unterbrae, Level 3
I win fights against random monsters at 1N 2E and 2N 3E.
3N 4E is the start of an anti-magic zone that I can't avoid in order to make progress. I continue along and win a fight against random monsters at 5N 4E.
I step west out of the anti-magic zone and put up a Batchspell. I win another fight against random monsters at 3N 2E.
A faded figure at 3N 1E asks: "I am nothing, I make nothing, but my opposite creates me even as it destroys me. What am I?" The obvious answer is "shadow". I can now take the stairs at 4N 0E to the third level.
