Baldur's Gate 2 Online Walkthrough by Montresor
THE HELLISH POCKET PLANE
After killing Illasera you will automatically be transferred to this small area in Hell. You will first have a short conversation with a Solar who offers some cryptic information, after which you will meet the ghost of your old arch-enemy and half brother, Sarevok.
Sarevok offers you knowledge but it comes at a price: He wants to live again, and to do that he needs a small part of your Bhaal essence. You will have to give him a small part of your soul (unless you have Imoen with you, in which case she can give up a part of her soul instead).
Once resurrected, Sarevok tells you a number of interesting things:
- You will first have to complete a challenge at 5 before you can leave the pocket plane. Please see below for details. Once you have completed this challenge, you can enter and leave the Pocket Plane at will, except during combat.
- Once you have completed your challenge, you will have to travel to the Tethyrian city of Saradush to start your destiny.
- There is a spirit here that can summon those people who are tied up with your destiny.
- Finally, Sarevok offers to join you as an NPC. Despite his impressive stats, I usually don't take him along if I have been through Shadows of Amn, unless my party needs a strong fighter. At this point he will be well behind the rest of the party in terms of advancement.
If you tell Sarevok to wait for you, he will remain in the Pocket Plane. If you tell him to get lost, he teleports away and is no longer available. If you bring him along, you have the option to demand that he first swear an oath to you. If you do not ask him to swear an oath, you can later change his alignment to Chaotic Good.
If you didn't get around to looting Illasera's body in the Grove of the Ancients, her equipment will be lying at your feet when you arrive in the Pocket Plane. There will be a Dagger +2, a Sylvan Chain +2, a Ring of Protection +1, and a pair of Boots of Speed.
- Here is the exit from the Pocket Plane. The exit will take you where you need to go. The first time you use it, it will take you to Saradush. Later you may get several options on where you want to go, or you will simply be brought to where you were last.
- Click one of these two locations to speak to the Fate Spirit. The spirit can summon those whose destiny is tied up with yours – namely the same NPCs who were available in Shadows of Amn. If you started a new game, this is the way to build the party of your dreams.
Of course there are exceptions. You can't summon any NPC who died during Shadows of Amn. For example, if you let Viconia be burned at the stake, she is not available. And Yoshimo will not be available under any circumstances, even if you can ask for him.
When you summon a character, they will be upgraded to 2,500,000 XP and come with better weapons than what they had in Shadows of Amn. Generally they will have a +3 weapon in their favorite weapon class.
- In the main area will be a number of storage boxes where you can save items for later use. You may want to set one box aside for items you will need later during the final battle, another for things you want to sell when you find a shop, etc.
After you have killed Yaga-Shura, this is also where you will be summoned to a meeting with the Solar. At this point, you get to meet the ghosts of your mother and of Gorion. Among other things, you will learn that when Gorion saved you, he had to choose which of two children he would adopt. The other child – Sarevok – was left to grow up on his own.
- Here you will first meet an Imp named Cespenar. He introduces himself as your butler – he used to be Bhaal's butler and assumed that you'd like to inherit him from your father.
Like Cromwell in Shadows of Amn, Cespenar can upgrade a number of the items you find during the game. Please click here to see the list of items he can upgrade, and what he needs in order to do so.
- Before you can escape the Pocket Plane, you need to pass a challenge in this room. Enter, and you will meet a dead Bhaalspawn named Gavid. After his short speech, advance into the room and you will have to fight a series of enemies.
If you are Good or Neutral, the enemies will be Kobolds and Doppelgangers; then Gnolls, Ogres, and Sahuagin; and finally Drow.
If you are Evil, you will have to fight Commoners, then Elven Warriors, and finally Knights of the Order. If you are continuing a game from Shadows of Amn, you will have to fight an avatar of Queen Ellesime at the end.
For completing the challenge the protagonist gets 30,000 XP. Each other party member gets 25,000 XP. You also gain the ability to enter and leave the Pocket Plane.
- Here you will have to face a challenge after you have killed Yaga-Shura. Basically, you will have to fight yourself as you would have been if Gorion had adopted Sarevok instead of you. With your evil alter ego will be three of your opponents from the end fight in Baldur's Gate; Semaj, Angelo, and Tamoko. Not an overly hard battle. Once all opponents are dead, the protagonist gets 30,000 XP and each other party member gets 25,000 XP.
- Here are three more challenges which won't be available until Chapter 9.
