YAGA-SHURA'S STRONGHOLD, LEVEL 1

This is the first level of Yaga-Shura's stronghold. As may be expected, the area is heavily defended.

Rivers of lava flow through the area. Stepping on them will cause a bit of damage, so don't stay in the lava for too long.

  1. Here is the entrance from the Marching Mountains. Four or five Fire Giants and Elite Fire Giants are ready to bid you (un)welcome as soon as you step through the door!

  2. There's a trap at the entrance to this room.

  3. There's another trap on the right side at the top of the stairs.

  4. And another trap on the left side at the top of these stairs.

  5. Three traps surround this pool.

    Once the traps have been disarmed, one of your party members should loot the container in the center of the lava pool (and take a bit of damage for it) for the Hammer Wardstone, a copy of Elminster's Ecologies, 40 Bolts +2, and the Girdle of Fire Giant Strength.

    Four or five Fire Trolls and Fire Salamanders teleport in when you loot the container. To kill the Fire Trolls, finish them off with Ice or Acid.

  6. This room is defended by several Fire Giants and Elite Fire Giants. The central pool contains the Skull Wardstone, another copy of Elminster's Ecologies, and 30 Darts of Wounding.

    When you loot the container, you are attacked by a variety of Golems, including one or two Magic Golems which can only be hurt by non-magical weapons. I found that if I didn't have mundane weapons around, the party could beat them to death with their bare hands. However, you can also find mundane weapons at 4 in the Marching Mountains outside the stronghold.

  7. Once you have the Hammer Wardstone from area 5, click the symbol at the top of the room to take a bit of fire damage. You can now enter the room at 8.

  8. Before you can enter this room, you must have the Hammer Wardstone from 5 and use it at 7. The room is defended by Fire Salamanders, Fell Cats, a Flaming Skull, and a Burning Man.

    The central container holds the Flame Wardstone, a Potion of Superior Healing, and 20 Arrows of Fire. When you loot it, you are attacked by a Greater Fire Elemental and two Burning Men. Watch out as the Burning Men can cause Fear and Blindness.

  9. There is a trap at the entrance to this room. The room itself is defended by a Fire Giant.

    Again, click the symbol at the top of the room with the Skull Wardstone from area 6 in your inventory. The character who does this takes a bit of fire damage, and each party member gets 5,000 XP. You can now enter the room at 10.

  10. Before you can enter this room, you must have the Skull Wardstone from 6 and have used it on the symbol at 9.

    The room contains the same assortment of enemies as the room at 8: Fire Salamanders, Fell Cats, a Flaming Skull, and a Burning Man.

    Loot the central container for the Blood Wardstone, 20 Sunstone Bullets +1, and the two-handed sword Psion's Blade +5. This time the party is attacked by two Bone Fiends and an Erinyes.

  11. When you have all four wardstones, click this pedestal. Each party member gains 20,000 XP, and the road to Level 2 is now open.

  12. Here is the entrance to Level 2 of Yaga-Shura's Stronghold.
