ICASARACTH'S LAIR

Great Wyrm Isle

Now I head back to the Barbarian Camp and speak to Hjollder. I then sail out to the Great Wyrm Isle. Yep, more Trolls. Lots of Scrags, Greater Snow Trolls, and Greater Ice Trolls. As long as you've got reliable sources of fire damage (e.g. like Derrick's Doom Halberd) none of this should be a problem.

I then reach the front door, and then kill a couple of Ice Golem Sentries.

Ice Tunnels

Here we have a series of icy tunnels with of course more Greater Ice and Snow Trolls. There's a couple of new ones here, Berg Yeti and Bone Scavengers. Both can breathe cold at the party. Individual breath attacks won't do anything alarming, but it can add up over the long haul, so you may need to rest periodically.

Note how Derrick can himself act as a defensive bulwark when he gets surrounded. When things get intense around him, he'll pop up a Mirror Image spell. Now the monsters have to get past both Stoneskin and the Mirror Images before they can even scratch him.

There is also a container, as you loop east and towards the middle-eastern edge, that has the same two possibilities of either Ogren's Scale or the Cloak of Invisibility.

Field of Ice

For much of this area, you get the usual suspects, Bone Scavengers, Water Kin Elementals, Greater Ice and Snow Trolls. There's a few new ones. Cold Bones, who are like Skeletons except they inflict additional cold damage when they strike. Frozen Bones will start off with a Snilloc's Snowball spell, and then close in. They also have a cold aura similar to that of a Frost Salamander. Icy Bones will start off with an Ice Storm, and then close in. Frozen and Icy Bones have very fast casting times for their spells, so it is all but impossible to interrupt them before they get their spells off. Lanatir can soften them up with a Fireball if they're in a bunch though. All you can really do is suck up the damage (which I don't mind since most of my chararacters have items with fire and cold resistance bonuses) and then rest up afterwards.

Note also that I retreat from the narrow bridge on the north side instead of fighting over it. This way, I can surround and gang up on the monsters when they cross over.

There's a lot of loot here as well, but it's pretty much stuff that you should have found well beforehand as it is.

Sahuagin Temple

I enter, and then kill a few Sahuagin as well as a few Vodyanoi, which are basically aquatic versions of Umber Hulks but without the confusing gaze.

Derrick then casts Invisiblity on the Black Thorn, who then goes around disarming as many of the traps as he can. Once he finishes, he regroups, and that's when the party puts up its magical buffs.

I then go around killing the Sahuagin, Vodyanoi, and Water Elemental Kin in the side wings. The Sahuagin Priests can only cast lower-level spells, so don't feel particularly threatened by them. One of the rooms on the north has a few niches that hold some Bolts of Sekolah's Fire (+3d6 fire damage for the next 3 rounds) which Derrick will pack for the final fight.

Once that is finished, I retreat to the initial entry room. I then have Genevieve peck the middle Ice Golem Sentry with her Throwing Axe +2. The reason for this is that not only will all 3 Ice Golem Sentries come after me, but a very large force of Sahuagin will arrive as well. I can thus set up a crowd-control and cloud-damage zone just west of the initial entry room. I can now throw in things like Incendiary Cloud and Acid Fog into the mix as well. Lanatir seals the deal by using the Horrid Wilting power from his Bracers of Icelandic Pearl.

After this, I kill several Sahuagin and a couple of Water Elemental Kin at the northwestern part of the Temple. They are led by a Sahuagin Prince, who leaves behind a Coral Plate Armor (armor class 3, -2 Dexterity, +25% each cold and fire resistance), a Cloak of Protection +1, and the Plain Key, which will open the door to Icasaracht's sanctum.

There are several Urns here with some unique magical items, including:

And lastly ...

Also, there's a sort of cage just before the entrance to Icasarach't lair. I click on it to get an xp reward for allowing another dragon to die.

I don't show it in this video, but I sleep outside the Temple itself before my final battle.

Icasaracht

Now I make sure everybody jacks up their cold resistance, either with a scroll or a potion, in addition to the usual preparations.

I then have an extended dialogue with Icasaracht, the White Dragon Queen. She's going to hit me with her cold breath right away. She's also going to be helped out by a lot of Sahuagin that includes Royal Guards, the Sahuagin King, some Sahuagin Underpriestesses, and the Sahuagin High Priestess. The Priestesses can be dangerous in that they can cast spells that include Aganazzer Scorchers, and worse still, Dispel Magics that will negate your spell buffs.

My strategy was basically one of letting them come to me. Halagrim activates his Sundered Shield of Tiernon to give himself an even higher bonus to armor class and damage resistance. Once he gets a handle on where Icasaracht is approaching from, he interjects himself between the party and Icasaracht, and holds her up all by himself. He pretty much took damage only from the fire spells. Icasaracht rarely hits him, if at all, and if she did connect, the damage was reduced.

This buys Cassandra, Derrick, and Lanatir time to set up both crowd-control and cloud-damage spells. And sure enough, the Sahuagin walk right into the zone. The Priestesses are usually unable to cast spells after taking damage while in the zone.

Genevieve waits patiently and cuts down any Sahuagin that manages to walk out of the zone and towards the party.

At some point, Lanatir finishes off the Sahuagin outright by using the Horrid Wilting power from his Bracers of Icelandic Pearl.

Once the Sahuagin are all dead, Derrick immediately casts Haste. Genevieve, Derrick, and Halagrim then run right up to Icasaracht and go all out for her. The rest of the party keeps a safe distance and attacks her from a distance.

At some point, her physical body falls and she makes a last stand while in a soul gem. All that remains is to cut down the Soul Gem itself. Once the Gem dies, the party can exit back out the door to the lair.

The video concludes with the ending movie and credits.
