POCKET PLANE

The Solar

Here is where the party gets transported to the Pocket Plane, and speaks briefly with the Solar.

Sarevok Joins

Here is where Sarevok joins my party. In the case of the good party, I have him join without compelling his obedience through a geas. This is necessary if I want to keep him for the conclusion of Ascension.

I immediately give him all of Minsc's equipment except for the Shadowed Dragon armor, and thus Sarevok is ready to go with the Silver Sword and all the rest of it.

*Evil* Asteroth compels him to undergo a geas in order to keep him in the evil party.

Cespenar

Now I speak to Cespenar the Imp. He has a few Throne of Bhaal specific recipes that he can make for me.

The first one is giving him the Bladesinger Chain +4, a scroll of Protection from Normal Weapons, and 40,000gp to produce the Aslyferund Chain +5 (armor class 0, immunity to non-magical weapons). This will be Avastrian's armor for the rest of the game.

The second one is giving him the Cloak of Protection +2, a scroll of Improved Haste, a scroll of Invisibility, and 20,000 gp to produce the Improved Cloak of Protection +2 (+2 to saving throws, +2 bonus to armor class, Improved Haste 1/day, Invisiblity 1/day). This will be Anomen's cloak for the rest of the game. This is part of the reason why I have Anomen use a different set up. The Improved Haste lasts 2 rounds plus 1 round for every level of the character wearing it. Anomen's levels will go really high during Throne of Bhaal, thus lasting far longer than the Improved Haste of the Bracers of Blinding Strike. The drawback is that the Improved Haste from the Cloak won't work while the Ring of Free Action is worn, so I have Anomen remove the Ring. Anomen's save vs. spells is pretty much through the roof by now, so I'm gravitating towards a different set up.

Cespenar can also put together the item recipes under the Item Upgrade Mod. My first one is to give him Boots of Grounding, plus the Boots of Speed I looted from Illasera, a Rogue Stone, and 20,000gp to produce the Stormlord's Heels (doubles the wearer's foot speed, +50% electrical resistance). These will be Sarevok's boots for the rest of the game. With four of my characters now very mobile, I have Anomen take on more of a rearguard role.

Retribution

Here is where I speak to Gavid, who was a small-time Bhaalspawn turned serial killer. Once my conversation with him finishes, I am forced to fight evil monsters in a certain progression: Kobolds and Dopplegangers, then Gnolls and Sahuagin, then Drow. Once I kill enough of them, another incarnation of Jon Irenicus shows up and attacks. It was a pretty easy matter in vanilla BG2 to rush him and cut him down. In SCS, I have to adopt a familiar strategy of having Avastrian, Keldorn, and magic resistant summons keep Irenicus occupied while the rest of the party keeps a safe distance. I can then bring him down once enough of his protections have worn off.

*Evil* For the evil party, it becomes having to fight good-aligned creatures, like Mercenaries, then Elves, and then Paladins. Also, Ellesime replaces Irenicus.

For either the good party or the evil party, the protagonist acquires the ability to travel back to the Pocket Plane at will. Now I can travel to the city of Saradush.
