Imprisoned One

Now I go down the portal. I have a brief conversation with the Imprisoned One, who suggests that using the Ritual Scroll will result in me being trapped as well. I go ahead and read the scroll anyway, to get the xp bonus for everyone in the party.

It turns out that I am trapped, but the Imprisoned One opens a way out for me. I leave and confront Brother Odren. He then leads the rest of the Knights of the Vigil to ascertain whether the Imprisoned One has been destroyed and sent back to the Abyss.

A Ghostly Apparition then appears, and explains things further. She then offers me a different Ritual Scroll that will keep the Imprisoned One inside of Watcher's Keep. However, I choose to engage in battle with Demogorgon, which is after all more rewarding in terms of xp bonuses. I make my way back.

Demogorgon

SCS Demorgogon is somewhat different than non-SCS Ascension Demogorgon. He won't start off right away with a Time Stop. Instead he'll try to go on the offensive right away. He has a number of ways of going about this.

He still loves to summon Demons, but he's much more gradual about it. This means I can't try to hit them all at once with my spells. But if enough do accumulate, you may need to cast party-friendly offensive spells like Horrid Wilting and Dragon's Breath and hope the law of averages (against magic resistance) tips the scales in your favour.

He also casts high level offensive spells. Typical choices include Dragon's Breath, Storm of Vengeance, and Implosion.

His tentacle attacks are still devastating. They can inflict level-draining and an especially damaging disease effect.

Suffice to say, I buff up to the max and do some summons. This includes Protection from Fire for everyone, as well as a Spell Immunity: Abjuration. Jaheira also equips the Holy Buckler of Amaunator for this fight. Depending on how things shake out, this battle can either be short and sweet or prolonged and bitter.

In this playthrough it ended up being the former. I tease forward a bit. Imoen brings down Demorgogon's protections with a Breach spell. Avastrian puts up a Protection from Magic Weapons.

Demogorgon takes time to cast a Storm of Vengeance spell. Anomen, Sarevok, and Imoen retreat to outside the spell's range. Avastrian, protected as he his, jumps in first and foremost and thus grabs Demogorgon's immediate attention. Keldorn, Jaheira, the Planetar, and the Elemental Prince, dive in right afterwards. Combined Greater Whirlwind Attacks suffice to bring down Demogorgon in short order. Everybody in the party gets 100,000xp. I get another 20,000xp for speaking to Brother Odren before he dies.

*Evil* It's too easy for the evil party. Jan simply leaves seven Spike Traps near where Demogorgon will appear, but while Demogorgon is still pretending to be the Imprisoned One. Once the fight begins, Demorgon gets blown away instantly.

My next destination is the Forest of Mir.
